‘Take Me Out’: Meet the leading ladies

Will they find love on Australia's newest dating show?

Comedian Joel Creasey is hitting our screens as the host of Take Me Out—which features 30 single women who, with the press of a buzzer, could meet their future partner. And after meeting the women, Creasey says the girls were nothing but authentic.

Brooke, 27

Who signed you up for the show?

My mum did! She has a habit of signing me up for TV shows. I guess I just don’t date a lot. I don’t put myself out there, so my mum is like, “I’ll do it for you!”

Does your mum’s meddling in your love life bother you?

At first I was annoyed because I was like, “It’s none of your business, stay out of my dating life.” But now I just laugh it off. My parents have been married a really long time. I think she just wants me to have that. My brother has always been in long-term relationships, so she wants the same for me. But every guy I bring home it’s like, “No, he’s not the right one.”

Aria, 24

What did your friends and family think about you going on the show?

I didn’t tell anyone other than my mum and my wrestling trainer.

How would you describe your experience?

I was very hesitant because I spent a lot of my childhood being bullied but we all gelled beautifully.

How did bullying affect your schooling experience?

I was bullied about my weight, my appearance; everything. I left one school and went to another thinking it would improve and it didn’t, so I left school. I’ve spent a lot of time learning to be able to love me how I am now.

Mallory, 22

Why did you decide to go on the show?

I have had some really bad dating experiences and went through a massively [hard] time with my mental health. I had depression and anxiety from all the bullying and had to get myself back on track. I took a year to just work on myself and I had no idea how to get back into the dating game. So when I saw the ad I thought, “You know what, I’m going to give it a crack.”

What were you bullied about?

I was bullied about my weight from the age of 6. It’s something I’ve worked on, but I’m not embarrassed about my body anymore.

Have you ever had your heart broken?

Absolutely. My biggest heartbreak was from people who said, “I’m not ready for a relationship.”There was a guy who did that once and we took a week off from seeing each other and then I see on Facebook that he’s got a girlfriend. He said, “No, no, no” to the girlfriend thing with me, and then a week later, he’s with someone else.

Take Me Out premieres Monday September 7, 7:30pm on Seven.

The first episode is available on 7Plus now!
