Growing up in a family with three sisters, experimenting with makeup and beauty was almost a rite of passage for Penny McNamee.

“I remember my older sister pinning me down after a terrible school photo in Year 9 and saying, “Right, we are going to pluck your eyebrows!” says McNamee, as she poses for WHO’s annual stars without makeup special.

And now the actress reveals more of her beauty hits and misses!

Best beauty advice you’ve been given?

It’s only in recent years and I wish someone had told me early about how important it is to fill in your eyebrows! It’s amazing how much colouring them in, just a little bit, frames your face.

What’s your daily beauty routine?

If I’m not at work, I wear foundation, a little blush and lip gloss. I love using a mineral, liquid foundation. Because it doesn’t look heavy and doesn’t feel heavy and is very different to the foundation I wear at work. I use Eles. It’s my favourite. And I’m not being paid to say that! [Laughs] I have been using it for seven years. I was living in New York for four years and I used to order it and get it shipped over because I couldn’t find anything like it.

Do you experiment with makeup?

No! I’m REALLY boring. I stick to what I know looks good. My complexion is peaches and cream so I just look good in the peaches and cream colours.

How has becoming a mum to one-year-old Jack changed your routine?

After work my first reaction is to get home and see him, so I don’t take my makeup off after work. I do it when he’s in bed. I would like to do it earlier on in the day but he’s more important.

How are you finding working full time and being a mum?

It’s really busy! I do feel like a hamster in a wheel most days. But the thing is I love my job. Every minute I am on set I just love that, but I also love being a mum at home. So when you’re doing what you love, it doesn’t matter.
