It’s a 2018 fact, we are addicted to our phones. Some of us seem to be on them an unhealthy amount, or maybe we need to be using them all through the day for work. So one thing we need to really pay attention to, is how it’s harmful to our skin.
These are just a couple of the negative side-effects our phones are having on our skin, have a read and take note!
It can trigger acne or cause breakouts from the bacteria
Think about all the places you rest or put down your phone, then pick it up and hold it against your face again. According to Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research in New York, “our phones have more bacteria on them than a public restroom.”
Throughout the day, your phone picks up external bacteria (through makeup, surfaces you have placed your phone on etc.) “With each phone call, we reintroduce these germs onto our skin, clogging our pores and leading to eventual breakouts,” according to New York City-based dermatologist Shereene Idriss.
Make sure you consistently clean your phone screen and alternate with switching to your Bluetooth or plugging in your earphones to speak on your phone.
The blue light can cause ageing
The blue light emissions coming from your phone can not only age your skin but it can also cause free radical damage. Even though you are still exposed to light pollution from natural things like the weather etc, it doesn’t help adding on to that with extra phone time. Try to put away your phone at least an hour before bed instead of disrupting your sleep (and your skin) by getting lost Will Smith’s Instagram feed. We’re all guilty.
Another way to assist in skin-repair from the HEV (high energy visible) light emitted from your phone, is to use products high in antioxidants. According to a recent article by Allure, this can aid in neutralizing the free radical damage.
