What supermarkets are open over the Easter long weekend?
On Good Friday and Easter Sunday, major Australian supermarkets like Coles, Woolworths and Aldi will typically be closed across Australia, with some states having more trading hour restrictions than others.
Some independent outlets like IGA or convenience stores will often be open when the major retailers are closed in case you need to purchase some last minute ingredients for your Good Friday lunch!
On Easter Saturday and Monday, major grocery stores will re-open again, often at more unique hours.
However, while major supermarkets will be operating at reduced hours, major pharmacies like Chemist Warehouse will remain open.
Is Bunnings open over Easter?
If your home renovations or DIY project is calling your name over the four-day weekend, Bunnings will be closed on Good Friday but open (albeit with reduced hours) on Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Can you buy alcohol over the Easter long weekend?
The big one to remember is that on Good Friday most bottle shops such as BWS and Dan Murphy’s are closed in NSW, QLD, and WA. In NSW, the 2026 Sydney Royal Easter Show runs for 12 days from Thursday, 2 April to Monday, 13 April at Sydney Olympic Park, with gates opening from 8:30am-9:00pm.
There are also lots of other markets, festivals, and shows running in majority of the states over the Easter long weekend such as the Bendigo Easter Festival in Victoria, the Redcliffe Markets Easter Extravaganza from 8am-2pm in Brisbane, and local food markets and easter egg hunts in other states.
For art galleries and museums, many are closed over the long weekend, with some operating at limited hours on Easter Saturday.
