It’s the most glamorous night of the year and the COVID-safe 2021 Acadamy Awards (better known as the Oscars) have officially kicked off.
With films like Promising Young Woman, The Father and Nomadland up for big awards, the Oscars are of course a celebration of the year’s biggest films that helped get us through the pandemic.
However with restrictions easing, the awards show gives us a chance to gaze in wonder at our favourite celebrities and their equally incredible outfits.
In fact, unlike past pandemic award shows, there will be no option to remote in via video chat wearing a sweatshirt though screenings are being held around the world.
“For those of you unable to attend because of scheduling or continued uneasiness about travelling, we want you to know there will not be an option to Zoom in for the show,” wrote producers Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins.
Whether they kept it classic and simple or wowed with a dress that will go down in history, we’ve rounded up all the 2021 Oscars red carpet looks.
Carey Mulligan
Nominated for Best Actress for her role in Promising Young Woman, Carey Mulligan is giving us serious Beauty and the Beast vibes in this golden gown.
Glenn Close
Hollywood heavyweight Glenn Close is up for her eighth Oscar nomination this year – this time for Best Supporting Actress in Hillbilly Elegy.
We love the midnight blue, and the gloves!
Viola Davis
Another Best Actress nominee for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Viola Davis is a vision in white.
Regina King
She may have won a gong for her acting in If Beale Street Could Talk but this year Regina King attended the Oscars as a director for One Night in Miami.
We’re big fans of the bling and big sleeves.
Amanda Seyfried
Now that’s some old Hollywood glamour!
The Best Supporting Actress nominee who starred in Mank looked drop dead gorgeous in her bright red Armani gown.
Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher
Ok so they’re not technically on the Hollywood red carpet but Borat nominee Sacha Baron Cohen and his wife Isla Fisher did attend a special screening in Sydney.
Laura Dern
Well knock us down with a feather, or several!
Big Little Lies star Laura Dern won the coveted Best Supporting Actress gong for Marriage Story last year but she let her hair down for this year’s ceremony.
Halle Berry
One word: WOW.
Halle Berry not only stunned fans with her floaty purple gown, but she also debuted a brand new haircut.
Margot Robbie
Whilst we’re on the topic of hair transformations, we are loving Margot Robbie’s chic fringe.
Australia’s golden girl donned a floral Chanel dress for Hollywood’s night of nights and was as beautiful as we expected she’d be.
Zendaya
Bright yellow may be a risky choice for some, but not for a fashion icon like Zendaya.
Her custom Valentino cutout dress was accessorised with Bulgari diamonds and we reckon this look will go down in history.
Reese Witherspoon
As one of Hollywood’s most recognisable stars, we knew that Reese would look drop dead gorgeous.
The Oscar winner stunned in a simple but chic red gown.
Olivia Colman
It seems that red is the colour of the night.
Former Best Actress winner Olivia Colman celebrated the glamorous event at a screening in London in a crimson frock with matching heels.
Vanessa Kirby
She’s not Princess Margaret in The Crown anymore!
Vanessa Kirby, who’s up for Best Actress for film Pieces of a Woman, looked breathtaking in a soft pink Gucci gown accessorised with Cartier jewels.
