Attention woo-woo girlies, there’s a Strawberry Full Moon tonight!
Read on to learn all about it and to find out how you can honour the celestial event…
What does the Strawberry Full Moon mean?
The term ‘Strawberry Moon’ originates from Native American tribes, and is simply a name for the full moon that occurs in the month of June.
Essentially, it was named ‘strawberry’ as June’s full moon was a signal to Native Americans that it was time to harvest wild strawberries.

Nowadays, and more spiritually, the Strawberry Moon symbolises abundance, fertility, and the fruition of intentions set earlier in the year.
It’s also viewed as a period to celebrate growth, express gratitude, and embrace the fullness of life.
Why is the Strawberry Moon so special?
Usually, the Strawberry Moon is as special as any other full moon.
However, this year’s Strawberry Moon – set to take place on June 11, 2025 – will be extremely special.

Why? It’s taking place at the same time as a rare astronomical event called the ‘major lunar standstill.’
This means the Strawberry Moon this year will be the highest full moon over Australia since 2006.
However, we’re a little jealous of our friends in the Northern Hemisphere as their Strawberry Moon/major lunar standstill will mark the lowest-hanging moon since 2006, and (because of its close proximity to the horizon) will likely be tinged red/orange – how apt for a Strawberry Moon!
Will Australia see the Strawberry Moon?
Despite being the highest full moon of the year (and the highest full moon we’ve seen in the last 19 years), the Strawberry Moon should be visible to the naked eye – if there are clear skies!

The moon will peak at 3.43 pm in Perth, 5.13pm in Adelaide and Darwin, and 5.43pm in Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, and Sydney.
Of course, viewing will likely be better later in the evening, after the sun has set.
What should I do to celebrate the Strawberry Moon?
You can do a few things to honour the Strawberry Moon:
- Reflect and Reset: Take stock of where you are and set clear goals for the months ahead.
- Connect with Nature: Get outdoors and enjoy the moonlight; whether it’s sitting on your balcony with a glass of (strawberry) wine or going for a walk – make sure you rug up though!
- Show Gratitude: Celebrate how far you’ve come; try jotting down a few things you’re thankful for.
