What is The Australia Effect?

The Australia Effect is TikTok’s latest obsession — basically, it’s rumoured to be what happens when people move to Australia and somehow come out looking, living, and feeling like a whole new person.

It’s giving effortlessly cool, natural hair (or lived-in blonde), mullets, and mustaches for men, and just overall vibes that scream casual beach babe.

In these videos, we are seeing natural beauty praised, and a more ‘undone’ look for both men and women.

Tan lines are also a big feature in these videos, a gentle reminder to always slip, slop, slap and protect your skin.

Is the Australia Effect real?

While us Aussies would certainly love to take credit for this supposed glow up, the real question is whether it’s Australia itself or just a change of scenery.

Often, when people change environments and have a fresh start, they start to glow with a new routine and the excitement of a new place.

Swapping late nights for sunrises and sleep-ins for hot girl walks, the Australian lifestyle could make anyone feel rejuvenated.

Of course, not every transformation is purely Australian magic, and whether it’s science or just social media fun, one thing’s clear: the “Australia Effect” has everyone talking, and suddenly we all want a little of that effortlessly cool energy.
