ELIAS
Melbourne-based Elias wasn’t planning on appearing on Love Island Australia. In fact, he was scouted for the series. “They hit me up through social,” he tells WHO. And, the 27-year-old hasn’t even watched the UK version to see what he’s gotten himself into. “I think it’s best to go in with no expectations,” he says.
When it comes to his ideal partner, Elias is after someone different to himself. “I’m looking for an opposite version of myself,” he says. “I'm not looking for the kind of girl who would want to sit on the beach while I'm surfing. I want someone more that, once you get them on to it, likes exploring, getting out there, [a] creative type. Girls that are keen to have a passion and creative outlet and [are] driven.”
Elias has been single for roughly 18 months now and hasn’t found success using dating apps, calling them “a massive waste of time.” “It's a lot easier to go out and meet someone or meet someone through a mutual friend, or just being out in the city and whatever. I find that's a more genuine way to meet someone. Yeah, and actually get an idea if you are going to get along or not.”
JOHN JAMES
At 32 years of age, John James is currently the oldest Islander in the villa, but he’s no stranger to dating ladies younger than him. In fact, his last girlfriend was 19 years old. “Do I need to say why it ended?” he laughs. “[I] got over watching Toy Story I guess. Even though she was the age that she was, she was quite mature for her age. It's not so much the age thing that bothers me; it's more the maturity level. I just got to a point where you start to look at your goals and your values, and being 32, you are probably creeping more towards a mature lifestyle rather than her still going out and getting pissed.”
The DJ from Melbourne signed up for Love Island Australia after his friends jokingly told him to. “It was a bit of a stich-up,” he tells WHO. “All my friends are obviously around the same age, so they're all married, kids, houses, white picket fence, all that sort of stuff. A couple of them had heard of the one in the UK. I never watched it or anything like that. Obviously, I get a lot of stick for being the only single one still left out of the group. So they're like, "Oh, you should check out this show, Love Island. Might be the last crack at the whiskey jar."
While John James might be looking for his happily ever after, it seems he’s not too picky when it comes to his ideal partner. “I don't have a particular type of girl,” he says. “I've dated school teachers to strippers to promo models to you name it, so I don't really have a type as such, but I guess you're just looking for that best friend that you want to have sex with.”
