Melbourne may have snagged the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage show, but Sydney has levelled the stage show playing field with the announcement that Frozen: The Broadway Musical is coming to the Capitol Theatre.
After wowing audiences and packing out houses on Broadway since it began early in 2018, the Tony-nominated musical is set to begin in Sydney in July 2020, it was announced earlier this week by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall.
“Frozen is one of the most highly acclaimed and sought after musicals currently in production,” Premier Berejiklian said. “It is a global cultural sensation, and we are thrilled to have secured the musical adaptation for Sydney.”
Although the stage show has some notable differences to the movie – new songs, no trolls – it has been embraced by Frozen fans young and old.
And with the sequel to the original 2013 film – itself a dual Oscar winner that spawned a devoted following to rival anything Disney has ever released – due in cinemas on Nov. 28, those fans now have a lot to look forward to.
