The kidnapping of an Australian charity boss in Afghanistan has left her family and colleagues devastated.
Since her April 28 abduction from a house in Jalalabad, no group has yet claimed responsibility or issued any demands.
“We are very sad,” her colleague Mansoor Khan tells WHO. “She is a very kind woman.”
It is believed armed men posing as Afghan officials kidnapped Wilson, who is the director of Kabul charity shop Zardozi. The 60-year-old was taken days before a planned holiday to her home city of Perth.
Wilson has been living in Afghanistan for two decades, working in women’s charities. Zardozi, which she helped establish, “trains Afghan women and sells their fabulous products here in Kabul,” she explains in a YouTube video.
Wilson “is a caring and supportive woman to Afghans and internationals alike,” fellow charity worker Margot Sangster tells WHO. “It is tragic that someone like Kerry would be abducted given her 20 years of service in Afghanistan.”
