Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing backlash from the public once again.

Following on from the recent revelation that the renovations to their new home, Frogmore Cottage, are costing the British taxpayers £2.4million, (AUS$4.4 million) the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have provoked controversy once again by announcing that the christening of their first child, son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be a private event.

he general consensus amongst the British public is that if they’re stumping up the cash for the royal couple’s lavish remodel of Frogmore Cottage, they should be granted access to the christening.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Monday, former Royal Editor at The Sun, Duncan Larcombe labelled Harry and Meghan’s decision to keep Archie’s christening private “PR disaster”.

“My personal concern with Harry, as I say, I have known him since he was a teenager.

“I think he is a fantastic guy. When you see these PR disasters, week in week out, which we have increasingly seen in the past few months.

“I worry for Harry because I think he deserves to be incredibly popular, so does Meghan,” Larcombe stated, according to The Express.

Host Piers Morgan continued that he doesn’t think Harry “thinks things through.”

“I don’t think he thinks these things through very well. He gives this big climate change speech – ‘we have all got to do more’. Then he gets a helicopter to Birmingham, which is a two-hour car journey. He doesn’t think through the potential suggestion of hypocrisy.

“I worry about who is advising him, or if they are advising him well, why he is overriding the advice.”

However, speaking in the royal couple’s defence, fellow guest Viscountess Hinchingbrooke, Julie Montagu said Harry has always been a rule breaker.

“Here’s the thing, he has just become a parent, seven weeks, they are still learning. Maybe they didn’t expect this backlash. Harry has always broken the rules.

“We have never seen him really abide by the rules. Let’s be honest, he has never really wanted to be part of this Royal Family.

“He has always broken the rules, take a step back, his mother died and that has massively affected him.

“I think for them, they will be in the public eye as a couple. But for Archie now, it’s a seven-week-old baby, and they are doing their own thing on Instagram.”

It was confirmed earlier this week that Archie’s christening will take place on Saturday July 6 at the Queen’s private chapel at Windsor Castle and will be attended by just 25 close family and friends.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to release pictures from the ceremony to their Instagram account in the following days.
