It was an emotional moment for Carrie Bickmore on Wednesday night’s The Project.
The TV star fought back tears as she introduced a segment about how a young autistic child was helped by his classmate during his first day at school.

“This is going to make me sad,” she began, before explaining that an eight-year-old boy had comforted another boy at the school gate on their first day.
“He went up to him. He held his hand to calm down.” Carrie then went on to explain the nervous young boy had autism.
‘He was overwhelmed by the noise and the commotion at the school gate,’ she said, with his actions of the other little boy making him feel better.
Carrie, who is a mum of three herself, went on to say the boy’s mum had always feared he would be left isolated at school, but her son’s classmate’s kind action had restored her faith.
‘That was her fear of him starting school. And when she saw that, she thought he was going to be alright.’
