The Wrong Girl/Channel Ten
Yesterday WHO reported that Former Neighbours and Home And Away star Craig McLachlan was accused of sexual harassment and assault by multiple costars.
Now, co-star Christie Whelan-Browne, has spoken out about the serious allegations and claims they are true.
Christie Whelan-Browne, 35, told ABC’s 7.30 she felt “a sense of relief” that she had spoken out and felt “empowered”.
But she and fellow accuser Angela Scundi said they were dismayed when their former employer, Gordon Frost Organisation, stated the company did not know any details about the allegations.
“I was incredibly disappointed, although not surprised,” Whelan-Browne told the ABC.
“ And the fact there was no apology involved again is unsurprising, but terribly disappointing.
Whelan-Browne, who also stars along McLachlan in The Wrong Girl, played Janet in The Rocky Horror Show production and claims McLachlan inappropriately touched her on stage during a sexually charged scene on a bed.
The producers of the musical, Gordon Frost Organisation, or GFO, expressed that they were blindsided to hear of the allegations against their star performer throughout the 2014 tour of the show.
Whelan-Brown also told the ABC: “That is untrue. And there were two people in management that I spoke to directly and I can’t imagine that they could look me in the face and say that those conversations never happened.”
At this stage, McLachlan has denied the claims, telling Fairfax Media, the claims are “baseless” and “they seem to be simple inventions, perhaps made for financial reasons, perhaps to gain notoriety”.
In response to this, Whelan confirmed she wasn’t “doing this for notoriety”.
“ I don’t want to be associated with Craig McLachlan the rest of my life. You don’t do it for money. There is no money.
“I’ve hired my own legal representation. I’m not being paid to be here. I risked my career. There is no money to be made. You do it for other women and for yourself.”
