80s pop sensation Tiffany is the first evictee of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here for 2018. Here the ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ singer chats to WHO about her time in the jungle, creating music with Shannon Noll and who she thinks will win.
Welcome back to civilisation! How does it Feel?
Oh well thank you! It feels a little strange. It makes your head spin a little bit when you get out. You’re like ‘cars and people and things and food choices’! I got out and went to a supermarket right away. Just to be in a supermarket, I really didn’t buy anything, I was too overwhelmed.
Was the I’m A Celebrity experience what you expected?
It was more than I expected it to be, it’s harder than I expected it to be. I knew that it wasn’t going to be an easy ride but emotionally, for me, I had a deeper experience that I’m forever grateful for. I walked into this not knowing if I would get along with anybody, and then I made friends all the way around. Just a wonderful group of people who are so warm and I consider them my extended family. Last night I had a flood of tears, I really truly miss them.
I came into this not knowing, and hoping to make friends. But really, to bond on this level and to be so honest in our conversations and to talk about life, regrets, failures, dreams, our kids, I just feel like I know a lot of them through and through. I’m very lucky, they are great people.
So you didn’t struggle being the only non-Australian in the camp?
Well I did a couple of times. There were times when I thought ‘I have no reference’. I’ve never been to Australia, it’s on my list, so I’m going this year. I’ve always wanted to go but because of my fear of flying it made it really tough for me. I haven’t been able to pursue travelling and taking my new music over to other countries and connecting with my fans and showing them all the cool things I’m doing now and how I’ve grown into a really great musician that I’m very proud of.
I felt like my life was getting small. Even just to get on a plane to get here was a challenge and I did it. To be in a place where I was the only American. I didn’t have my manager, my husband, nobody here. If you would’ve asked me to do that three years ago I would have said ‘absolutely not’, but I did and it was a great experience. But it was deeper than just conquering my fear of heights or being thrown in a box full of snakes. It really took me to my core and to just really be able to talk to people and open up and be vulnerable.
We saw you and Shannon Noll bond over music in the camp. Will you work together when he is out of the jungle?
Oh I hope so. I definitely asked him. I’m working on my record now and when I leave here [South Africa] I’ll go back to London and go write it to my music. I’ve got a new album coming out end of May, early June and the single is March 31st. So I’m in that headspace, and I know he has an album out already and he’s going to do a tour, so it’s perfect timing. And now that I fly again I will meet him on his terms whenever his available. I’d love to write with him, I’d love to do a duet with him. Our voices really work.
When you meet somebody you hope that will happen. Really it was on the fly in the jungle, writing a song about South Africa, and if we can accomplish that just with a guitar, no microphone, none of our writing tools, we can do amazing things in the studio and write a legit song.
He is an amazing songwriter, amazing performer. Once he was able to have his guitar in camp, it calmed me so much to listen to music. Music is our life, and his voice was so cool to hear everyday. So I would love to do something with him.
Who do you think will win and become King of Queen of the jungle?
Well I’m rooting for my girl Jacquie (Gilles), of course. She’s headstrong. She’s not going to give up anytime soon.
And I think that Shannon has a very good chance of taking it all the way. I know he is committed completely. He is a survivor, he knows very well how to survive in that element. He is not afraid of the challenges, he is going to put his whole heart and soul into it.
