Former X Factor Australia contestant Sophia Constantopedos has been accused of money laundering and receiving payments which were profited by a major white-collar fraud case.
Constantopedos who was formerly apart of singing trio Three Wishez, in 2011 of the Channel 7 talent show — allegedly helped move $250,000 stolen from the Australian Taxation Office through a company she owned.
According to The Daily Telegraph, her company Mermade Holdings also spent $35,000 on a boat and the 27-year-old’s former boyfriend purchased an $80,000 Range Rover for her with some of the allegedly scammed funds.
The singer’s then-boyfriend, known as Daniel ‘Big D’ Rostankovski, was one of nine people arrested in May. He was officially charged with defrauding the Commonwealth and allegedly stealing more than $100 million in taxpayers’ money.
A tendered affidavit from a federal agent alleges Mr Rostankovski created the company in his partner’s name to launder the money, and allegedly used it to shower her with pricey gifts.
The newspaper also reports that Ms Constantopedos has not been charged with any offences at this stage.
