As someone who works in media, there’s one thing I’ve noticed influencers and celebs always have in common: a digital camera. More specifically, the Canon G7 X Mark III.

And after trialling one for a week, I actually get the hype.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this camera can take the most basic photo and make it look incredible. It somehow makes you look completely airbrushed from head to toe, and even the most boring background suddenly looks ten times better.

Plus, it shoots in 4K, connects to Wi-Fi for instant sharing, and has a flip-up screen that makes it ideal for vlogging or capturing flattering selfies. I don’t even have to mess around with the settings, which, as someone who’s completely hopeless with tech, was a major bonus.

It’s also small enough to throw in your handbag, yet loaded with features that make it ideal for content creators, influencers, or anyone who just wants to level up their travel photos or outfit pics.

And in honour of the camera’s 30th birthday, Canon is releasing a limited-edition anniversary model, complete with a sleek graphite colourway and updated logo (featured above).

It’s not the only icon turning 30 this year: Zendaya, Tom Holland, Bella Hadid, Florence Pugh, and Hailey Bieber are all blowing out 30 candles in 2026.

Next year, Kylie Jenner joins the club — and she’s a fan of this cultural staple, often taking her Canon G7 X Mark III wherever she goes.

Getting started with the Canon G7 X

Unboxing is super straightforward. Inside, you’ll find the camera itself (with a wrist strap already attached), a battery, and a battery charger. That’s it – no complicated setup.

The only thing you’ll need to grab separately is a memory card. Once that’s popped in, you’re ready to start snapping straight away.

How does it compare to an iPhone camera?

While the iPhone camera is great for quick, everyday snaps, the G7 X is perfect for special events or a night out when you’re all dressed up and want to capture the moment for the ‘gram.

Everything – from the photo quality to the lighting – is infinitely better. And considering how easy it is to use, you honestly won’t mind carrying it around all night.

So… is it actually worth it?

If you ask me? Absolutely yes, it’s worth it. I’m not kidding when I say I’m genuinely obsessed with this camera.

As someone who takes photos purely for the aesthetic, I’ve loved how every image has turned out so far.

And honestly, I can’t stress enough how easy it’s been to use. Right now, I’m more than happy sticking to auto (zero shame), but one day I’d love to play around with the settings and see what else it can do.

Although it is, admittedly, very expensive, when you consider how much use you’ll actually get out of it, it definitely feels like a worthwhile investment.
