They were faced with their fair share of love triangles during their time on Bachelor In Paradise – first Florence, Jake and Megan and then Megan, Thomas, and Jake – but according to Jake Ellis, he and Megan Marx have come out the other side of it stronger. BUT don’t expect them to follow Sam Cochrane and Tara Pavlovic's suit and get engaged as the couple are adamant that it won't be happening anytime soon!
WHO: Megan, during your time in Paradise, you were plagued by doubt and quite unsure of your feelings and ultimately decided to leave without Jake. Would you say that you were in love with Jake now?
MEGAN: Oh, love is a big word! Look, I would say that we’ve been taking things pretty slow, you know, we haven’t been able to hang out all the time because of the nature of my work and Jake’s work and not living in the same place so, you know, step by step.
WHO: Jake, how were you feeling when Megan decided to leave on her own?
JAKE: It wasn’t… I know that’s how it shows how when it played down but it’s honestly not how it actually happened. Megan and I, we did have some time off camera in between our nighttime chat and the morning and we both definitely agreed and talked about, like we just didn’t want to… we were falling in love but we didn’t want to put so much added pressure on that by going to the commitment ceremony and necessarily saying that for us only to not work. I think we made the right decision that we wanted to do things on our own terms without that pressure so then we can really just spend that time with each other without letting down the viewers, letting down each other or I guess the concept of the show.
WHO: What happened in the weeks after Paradise? How did your relationship develop?
JAKE: It was our biggest fear… well my biggest fear especially was Megan was going to be doing a lot of travel straight after the show and our relationship, if it was to continue, was definitely going to be a long distance thing for quite some time. Thankfully that didn’t happen that way and we did get to spend some time with each other but we were apart for probably the first month, we hadn’t seen each other so definitely just…. I think just carried on with the conversations we’d been having and the whole time we had so much fun with each other and we just tried to keep that alive.
WHO: After spending every day together in Paradise, did you miss each other after you left?
JAKE: Hmm, not really…
MEGAN: [Laughs] Of course and I said this a lot in Paradise but Jake became my best friend. We hung out all the time, we had so much fun together and I was starting to fall in love with him so, you know, being away from each other, it did… it did make me miss him and I think that was good to know actually, because if you’re away from somebody and you’re not missing them then something’s wrong. I almost think it was good we had that time apart to really go through your feelings and see what’s up.
WHO: Jake, was it hard when the Florence drama was playing out on air and you had to discuss it at length and meanwhile, things with you and Megan were going so well?
JAKE: Yeah, I guess… the whole thing’s a bit of a strange concept. I think Megan and I are both very relaxed people and we’re very good together but I think no one has to actually go through watching them be with someone else or watching them spending time with someone else, play by play on a TV show so I guess it was hard… at the start I know it was hard for Megan to sort of see me with Flo and how that turned out and then as the show went on, it was very hard for me to watch the time she spent with Thomas but I guess it’s because our feelings for each other had definitely changed since filming. But it was good, we were very open and honest about it and we sort of… we did have a big conversation before the show aired to what we should expect with each other, like what we would see of each other so like that definitely helped, it definitely softened the blow.
WHO: Moving onto the other couples, have you guys been on any double dates with them?
JAKE: Have we?
MEGAN: It’s been more like group catch-ups than anything because obviously we can’t be seen out, we can barely be seen out together let alone like imagine two couples out together. So it’s been like group catch-ups with people that we know from the show.
JAKE: We have seen the other couples; we’ve seen… we haven’t seen Jarrod and Keira together?
JAKE: We saw Sam and Tara together because obviously they live on the Coast…
MEGAN: We caught up with Ali…
JAKE: We saw Ali… Like Megan said it’s all sort of been in a big group so no double dates as of yet.
WHO: In a recent chat with Sam, he said the following about Keira and Jarrod’s relationship: “She keeps him in line and he obeys her.” What do you guys make of their relationship?
MEGAN & JAKE: [Laughs]
MEGAN: I think it’s wonderful and I think when you watch it you see that Jarrod really needs someone to completely adore and pour his love into and Keira needs someone to adore her and worship her, right? But that’s only one dimension of their relationship, when you see them together they just get along so well and I think on an intellectual level, they just really connect too.
WHO: As for your relationship, what makes you both so compatible for each other?
MEGAN: Well I guess, you know, to start there’s the reasons we were attracted to each other in the first place which was a little bit physical and as we got to know each other… a lot physical [laughs] and then as we got to know each other, we had a lot of fun and we just got along really well and Jake is the first person that I’ve been with that I feel like I can completely myself around, there’s nothing I have to hide and I think that’s a really unusual thing to find with a partner.
JAKE: I think we just… for me personally, we just feed well off each other and Megan definitely makes me want to be a better person and do better and I think we’ve both got a very objective mind and we look at things maybe a little bit differently say to other couples, like I feel like we were probably tested more than the other couples during Paradise and I felt that we came out stronger because of it. But, yeah we’re still… like Megan said, we are taking it slow and we want to do it right because we obviously do see that there’s something really there with us and we just want to make sure we don’t stuff it up I guess.
WHO: Megan, are you living on the coast? Are you guys living near each other?
MEGAN: No, no, I’m still traveling, you know, doing my thing so we see each other when we can but we haven’t sort of discussed where to from here, it’s still day-by-day and taking it as it comes.
WHO: I was going to ask what does the future hold for you guys or is it one day at a time?
JAKE: Yeah I think… we’re excited; we’re going away on our first overseas trip together tomorrow. I guess it’s been hard, the show’s been on and we’ve both had so much media and all that kind of stuff so it’s going to be really good to just absolutely shut off and spend time with each other.
MEGAN: It’s almost like we’re 18 and we’re like ‘Let’s go traveling, let’s meet up here and do this’. We’re not like all babies, marriage, any of that stuff, it’s more yeah just all the fun stuff like I’m just looking forward to…
JAKE: Honeymoon period!
MEGAN: Yeah basically [laughs]... having a great time!
