The name Spencer Pratt is a blast from the past, with the reality TV star making a villain of himself in the 2000s while on The Hills. However, Pratt is now a hopeful politician who very much wants to forge a future for himself as the mayor of Los Angeles.

And, the way the 42-year-old is going about his campaign is bizarre, to say the least.

His latest strategy to encourage residents to vote for him is a billboard of him surrounded by dogs that reads, ‘If dogs could vote, they’d vote for Spencer Pratt for LA Mayor.’

Paris Hilton, Brittany Aldean and more show support

While we may never know if our canine friends would, indeed, cast their ballots for the former MTV star, it’s a noble quest to try to protect animals in the city – and it’s been a popular tactic with some A-list celebs.

Most notably, Paris Hilton, as well as Selling Sunset real estate agent Mary Bonnet and actresses like Brittany Aldean have commented their support online.

Other campaign billboards have included a cartoon of a mother walking with a pram while the city around her was in fire which read, ‘Sick of the chaos? Ready to feel safe? Vote from Pratt for LA mayor’.

Perez Hilton and Grammy winner Kaya Jones showed their support on this one.

And, one supporter, filmmaker Charles Curran, has been making blockbuster-worthy AI-generated promo campaigns where Pratt is seen playing saviour Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Star Wars character, fighting off those eager to see the downfall of LA (including a vodka-clutching Kamala Harris) with Pratt resharing the videos.

“Never noticed before how Pratt has such strong young Obi Wan vibes,” one supporter wrote online. Another called it “brilliant” and said “so many people across the US” are rooting for Pratt.

So, can he win?

Spencer Pratt compares himself to Barack Obama

As the June 2 election for mayor of Los Angeles nears, Pratt is certainly throwing everything at his campaign to win over votes.

He’s currently volunteering as a community organiser in LA, a position Barack Obama, 64, held in Chicago in the 80s, early in his political career, prompting the mayoral hopeful to take it upon himself to draw some interesting comparisons.

“I have two awards from my community. President Obama actually didn’t even have awards when he was a community organizer,” Pratt, told NBC.  “He was able to become a senator and then a president for eight years. So, I feel like him, and I have the same experience.”

Pratt further added that Obama “had no experience running the whole entire country, which is way bigger than L.A.”

Ok then!

Pratt, who met wife Heidi Montag on The Hills, announced he was running for the position in January after the couple lost their Pacific Palisades home during a wildfire crisis in early 2025.

“I’m no longer a reality star,” he explained. “It’s funny, I keep being called a reality star. I’m the only candidate living in reality, too.”
