The Mysterious Hair Of Donald Trump

He may claim that he has the “best words”, but does he have the best hair?

Donald Trump. Some people love him, and some people hate him; he’s a controversial man with a controversial hairstyle.

What is exactly is his hair? It looks as though it’s made of a thin straw-like substance, and it barely moves! In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at Trump’s hairstyle and see if we can figure out the mystery behind his admittedly luscious locks.

A Hairy Situation

First of all: why is Donald Trump’s hair like that to begin with? He’s not the only President of the USA who’s experienced changes in their hair. The presidential office tends to age its head of office.

We famously saw Barack Obama go almost completely grey over the course of his 2 terms in office. But Donald Trump has always had a weird history when it comes to his hair, even before his campaign.

Everyone has a different theory: Is it a wig? A transplant? Magic pixie dust? who knows! But perhaps the best account that we have comes from the tell-all Trump book by former White House Staffer Michael Wolff.

In Fire And Fury, he explains that Trump’s weird looking hair is due to his having had scalp-reduction surgery in the past to cover up his bald spots. In addition to that, Trump apparently gets his hair dyed every now and then with some “cheap dye” (budget cuts to the presidential beauty fund, we presume) and tops it off with a strong hairspray to keep everything in place.

Now, since Trump has denied more or less everything in that book, we can’t actually take that word as gospel. But since Trump also loves getting his photo taken, we have plenty of documentation to base a few guesses on.

Trump’s Hair Through The Ages

Like most of Trump quotes and speeches, his hair has changed so much that we’re not entirely sure if it’s even real anymore. Here are a couple of particularly photogenic (and bewildering) examples:

5. Orange Was The Old Black

Most pictures we have of Donald Trump today show the man with his signature baggy suit, oversized red tie, and blonde-to-brassy-to-orangey hair, but there was a time when he rocked a brunette do’.

We’re not quite sure what happened that led to the drastic colour shift, but if the accounts are to be believed, it was probably a mixture of age and hair dye that made his hair the way it is now.

4. The Disputed Comb Over

While not something that he’s particularly keen on talking about, Trump has confessed that he’s quite self-conscious about his bald spots. Even without the tip on the scalp-reduction surgery, this has always been the case: the Donald Trump haircut would not be complete without the comb-over, as it’s been a trademark inclusion in all his hairstyles since the early 1990s.

3. It’s Definitely Not A Wig

We’ve already touched point on the wig question, but if there’s one person that absolutely loves to bring this up, it’s Trump himself. This was a talking point on his campaign to the presidency (check this Youtube video of him on Jimmy Fallon) and so far, it’s the one thing that seems to hold up.

2. Some Wavy Action

A lot of people might characterise Trump’s hair as “wispy”, but that’s not always the case. There are times (or angles) where his hair seems to have a lot more volume than usual, even being a little wavy towards the back. Could this be the hairspray? Or something else? We may never know.

1. Shining, Shimmering…

Finally, there’s the strange sheen that his hair sometimes has under sunlight, wind, or rain. We may be reaching here, but that sheen seems to be a trademark sign of having bleached or dyed hair.

Perhaps We’ll Never Know

We hope you’ve enjoyed this brief dive into Trump’s mysterious hair. Although we weren’t able to come with any concrete answers, we definitely ruled out some possibilities. All in all, there’s only one person who really knows what’s going on with Trump’s hair, and that’s the president himself – and something tells me that he’s going to be taking that secret to the grave.
