Cameron Merchant is basking in the fresh glow of fatherhood with his beautiful wife Jules and, although their reality TV days are far behind them, the couple refuse to forget their roots.

Former Married At First Sight stars Cameron Merchant, 37, and Jules Robinson, 38, welcomed their first child, Oliver Chase Merchant into the world on October 3rd 2020 and, despite sharing a screen with wine-throwing Martha, cricketer Cam tells Who that their little one is the most exciting thing to ever happen to them.
“It is exciting and it just keeps getting more exciting every single day,” Cam tells us.
“I’m just realising how much life changes as he grows and develops his little personality and smile. This is a whole new world that I’m living that I had zero idea about before but it is, without a doubt, the best thing in the world and something I wouldn’t change, that’s for sure.”
You can hear the adoration in Cam’s voice as he raves about his “superwoman” wife and how she’s adapting to the role of being a mum.
“She [Jules] has been incredible.” Cam says. “She is a superwoman and that is probably an understatement. She is a duck to water. She’s just adapted to motherhood but also balanced her business, her shapewear, and everything else she’s doing. She’s just brushed her shoulder off and got on with it and been an incredible mum.”
Reminiscing about his favourite memory with little Ollie, Cam remembers fondly the time his son “first cracked his proper laugh”.
“It was myself, Jules and mum all around him and she (Cam’s mum) was changing his nappy. My mum was making this silly little noise and we all got ’round it and he just burst into hysterical laughter. It was the most precious thing I’ll always remember. It was very special,” the cricketer gushes to Who.
And, of course, these moments would not be possible without the couple’s TV marriage on Married At First Sight. A fact which Cam readily acknowledges and remains infinitely thankful for.
“We always say we’re so grateful for how Jules and I met; it has been a magical journey and we certainly look forward to showing Ollie how his parents met one day, that’s something that no one’s ever going to take away from us.” Cam explains.
Despite having left the reality TV game in 2019, Cam and Jules remain one of the show’s most beloved couples. The cricketer thinks this is due to the way they keep it “real” and don’t get caught up in the “glitz and glamour” of the industry.
“We want to keep the real in everything we do.” Cam says. “We were two, three, seasons ago but we still have a connection to so many people out there who find us relatable; everyday people. They’ve seen our journey and our way of meeting, to get married, to build our life together, to have a family. And I think that whole time we’ve kept the real in it and we haven’t tried to be something we’re not.”
The 37-year-old continues: “If something hasn’t gone quite right, we’ll document that. And I think people have really attached themselves and related to that realness of parenthood and not getting caught up in the glitz and glamour.”
And even if there was any temptation to get “caught up”, Cam explains there is simply no time and his priority is 100% Ollie at the moment.
“We (Jules and I) have had to rearrange our priorities to make sure that Ollie is in the best care and, not only that, but our relationship as well. So we put that time away to make sure that we are looking after each other and we can have that real wholesome quality time and that positive influence on each other, rather than being caught up in these frivolous behaviours that I think we’re all getting caught up in a little bit.”
For the couple, these “frivolous behaviours” are namely binge-watching TV. The reality star admits that “there’s nothing wrong with binge watching because we all need a getaway” but acknowledges that he and Jules perhaps overindulge from time to time.
“Both Jules and I know that we just have to cut back our binge-watching.” Cam admits. “Or Jules says she tries anyway.”
It is for this reason that the cricketer has partnered up with Uncle Toby’s for their Oatvention campaign, encouraging people to re-prioritise their attention away from frivolous bingeing in exchange for getting stuck into something healthy.
“I’ve been eating Uncle Toby’s oats for, deadest, 15-20 years in the morning.” Cam reveals. “This concept they came up with is brilliant, it’s left-field, but it’s real. Let’s cut out some of the habits, some of the obsessions, and let’s get back to what really matters. And it’s great being a part of it. When you cut these behaviours out you can focus purely on what really matters.”
And, for Cam, what “really matters” is his “superwoman” wife Jules and his baby boy Ollie.
“Priorities have definitely changed in my world,” Cam confirms, stressing his life is currently about “family time and fatherhood and forgetting about everything else”.
