David and Victoria Beckham are arguably one of the world’s most famous couples but since tying the knot in 1999, there have been several alleged cheating scandals surrounding the former football superstar.
David and Victoria met when David’s sporting career was just kicking off and Victoria was riding high as one fifth of the Spice Girls.
The up-and-coming athlete asked for his future wife’s number and to this day, he still has the London-to-Manchester plane ticket that she wrote it on.
Two years later, the couple welcomed their eldest son Brooklyn and tied the knot in a lavish castle wedding but it was in 2004 when David’s first rumoured affair made headlines.
The Real Madrid player was spotted with a woman – later identified to be his PA Rebecca Loos – at a Spanish nightclub and the now defunct New Of The World reported that the two had numerous sexual encounters afterwards and that Victoria had contacted Rebecca warning her to stay away.
The cheating allegations exploded when Rebecca’s brother John Charles spoke to the Daily Mail a year later sharing details about the rumoured affair.
“Rebecca was upset when she parted company with David and Victoria last year. She became very down and cried a lot. At times she looked heartbroken,” John told the publication.
“I thought it was because of professional reasons. But now I am beginning to understand there must have been more to it.”
David responded to John’s story via statement explaining: “During the past few months I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life.”
“What appeared this morning is just one further example. The simple truth is that I am very happily married. I have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change these facts.”
This didn’t stop Rebecca from speaking to Sky News about the affair where she called David a “generous lover” and said she didn’t expect any sympathy from Victoria, adding that she wasn’t sure why they were calling lawyers in.
“I think they have worked very hard at getting the image they have and I think they will do everything they can to maintain it,” she said.
“So whether that involves having happy shots taken or calling their lawyers it’s up to them. I am 100 per cent sure of what I am talking about, there no doubt in my mind I have no reason to lie—why should I? I am just here to tell you my experience. He knows the truth and I know the truth.”
Shortly after his rumoured affair with Rebecca came out, Malaysian-born Australian model Sarah Marbeck also came forward saying she’d had a fling with the footballer that the couple denied.
Victoria and the couple’s sons Brooklyn and Romeo soon moved to Spain to be close to David where he was working at the time.
“We are sick and tired of people trying to make money at the expense of our family. It’s even more distressing when we are expecting our third son. These allegations are completely untrue and it is in the hands of our lawyers,” the couple said in a statement.
They then amended the complaint in 2005 to include another story by the publisher that featured quotes calling the Beckhams’ marriage a lie from their former nanny Abbie Gibson, who they also sued.
David was later accused of more affairs, the most recent of which was daughter Harper Seven’s teacher in 2018.
The scandal garnered so much attention that the Beckhams took the rare move of making a public statement – something they hadn’t done since the Rebecca Loos incident.
Even the father of the teacher in question spoke out, labelling the story as “nonsense”.
“My daughter has never even met him [David]. End of story,” he told The Sun on Sunday. “This is ridiculous. We have no idea where it has come from. She is a very pretty, attractive girl and been linked to it by fake news.”
David and Victoria are spending their 21st anniversary in lockdown at their Cotswolds home in the English countryside.
Whilst their eldest son Brooklyn, 21, is in the US with his girlfriend, their three youngest children Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15 and Harper, eight, are with them.
Wonder what sort of isolation date night they’ll get up to…
