Over three months after news of their divorce first made headlines, David Harbour has opened up about his split from Lily Allen for the first time.

When asked directly about their split in an interview with British GQ, the Stranger Things star said, “Oh boy,” before later unpacking the media attention surrounding the couple’s breakup.

“I’m protective of the people and the reality of my life. There’s no use in that form of engaging [with tabloid news] because it’s all just based on hysterical hyperbole,” he shared, adding that he felt delving deeper into his personal life would only encourage “a salacious s***show of humiliation.”

The actor, who turned 50 in early April 2025, also alluded to the “tremendous amount of change” that he’s experienced over the last year.

“I think in that world, you have two paths. You can deny this change, be afraid of this change, you can kind of be chaotic about it and, like, eat your way through – whatever you need to do… For me, always the best thing that I can do is take all of that experience and pour it into work, because my experience, no matter how awful or great, will always be useful to someone else if it’s channelled through art.”

David’s latest comments come just over three months after Lily Allen first confirmed the news of the couple’s divorce in January 2025.

Speaking on her Miss Me? podcast in early January 2025 podcast, Lily shared that she had “been spiralling” following the couple’s split.

“I’m finding it really hard to be interested in anything. I’m really not in a good place. I know I’ve been talking about it for months, but I’ve been spiralling and spiralling and spiralling, and it’s got out of control,” she continued.

While the 39-year-old did not speak further on their split, Lily did respond to the increased number of false blind items speculating about the couple’s break-up.

“I know there’s been some horrible blind items on the internet about me being found by my husband in a crack den, surrounded by men. I don’t know who is spreading these vicious rumours, but it’s not true. They’re not doing us any good. They’re certainly not doing me any good at the moment.”

After briefly opening up on their split, Lily shared that she would be taking a step back from the spotlight to prioritise her mental health.

“It’s really hard. I’m going away next week. You’re not going to hear me for a few weeks, listeners,” she said.

“I do want to reassure people because there will be speculation because of the amount of time that I’m going to be taking away, that I’m going to drug rehab – I’m not. I’ve not relapsed.”
