Delta Goodrem usually keeps tight-lipped about her private life but when it comes to her boyfriend, now-fiancé Matthew Copley, there are a few things we know.
The 40-year-old singer-songwriter has dated high-profile stars including Nick Jonas and Brian McFadden, but has been dating fellow musician Matthew for around seven years.
In early 2018, Delta and Matthew were photographed kissing in Hawaii but it wasn’t until January 2019 when the couple went Instagram official and it was revealed they had rung in the new year together with friends in Byron Bay.
In a chat with Stellar Magazine in May 2020, Delta spoke candidly about her relationship and how they spent time together during lockdown.
“I am pretty consistent with saying to people that my private life is my private life, but we are spending isolation together and, in our household, we’re both performers,” she explained.
“It’s a relationship of respect. Matt is an incredible musician and we really enjoy working together. Music is how we met, it’s what we both do, so it’s really about just being creative in the household.”
Delta, who was just 15 when her career kicked off, also told the publication that though she knows public interest in her personal life comes with the job, she decided years ago that she wouldn’t let anyone’s thoughts about her romantic life define her.
“It’s also about me understanding who I was, without other people telling me who I was,” she said.
When the world went into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, Delta and Matthew didn’t let that stop their love of music.
The couple hosted The Bunkerdown Sessions on Instagram and for 25 weeks from April through to October, they hosted a series of free online performances featuring brand new songs.
Matthew has also co-produced and co-written several of Delta’s hits including Solid Gold, Let It Rain and Keep Climbing.
“Very proud to see this out in the world, and very thankful for @deltagoodrem including me in this incredible journey!” he wrote in May 2020 when Keep Climbing was released.
“This song is really special and Delta sounds stunning on it!”
Though we don’t know much more about Matthew, Delta told WHO in 2020 what she finds sexy in a partner as part of WHO’s Sexiest People issue for 2020.
“I find kindness and authenticity to be some of the sexiest characteristics of a great partner and relationship,” she revealed.
The couple have remained pretty private in recent years, however, he does pop up in a few posts on Delta’s Instagram account here and there.
In September 2023 Delta announced she was engaged!
Keeping it short and sweet, she shared a few photos from the moment Matthew popped the question in Malta, captioning the post: “My best friend asked me to marry him 💍”
“My forever love!” replied Matthew, who also shared a post to his Instagram account alongside the caption, “She said yes !! 💍.”
Giving a rare insight into her relationship in a February 2024 interview with Sunrise, Delta revealed she and her fiance had celebrated a romantic Valentine’s Day together and she had been trying on wedding dresses.
“It’s definitely on our minds (the wedding) — we’re looking forward to that moment,” she told the show, before revealing more about how the pair spent Valentine’s Day that year.
“We celebrated having a new song out, and we also went to a really nice dinner and just enjoyed the day,” she said.
“We’re a little bit jet-lagged as we just got over (to London) from LA, where we’ve been working in the studio.”
Ahead of her hen’s party, Delta appeared on the Stellar podcast, Something To Talk About and shared new details of her engagement.
“When we got engaged, it was the day before we went on stage [for the opening night of the 2023 Innocent Eyes Anniversary tour] that we shared the photo [on Instagram],” she explained.
“And during that tour, it was beautiful – because it felt like we’d done an engagement party in every single city.”
“We got to share that in our own way … on stage together.
“It’s a love language for us being up there, but I do love keeping us as a sacred house, too. That’s important for me,” Delta added.”He chooses music as well, but he doesn’t choose this. My brother doesn’t. My mum and dad don’t. I have learnt that over time, and that’s what works for me.”
Ahead of their big day of saying ‘I Do’, a source has shared with Daily Mail that the pair are planning a European wedding in Malta.
“Sources close to the Innocent Eyes hitmaker have confirmed the wedding will take place in the coming weeks and will be an extravagant multi-day affair.”
The Daily Telegraph has also shared that among the guest list will be TV presenter Renee Bargh, former Nine journalist Airlie Walsh, Gemma Oldfield and her best friend Danielle Cox.
