Heather Maltman has it all – the brains, the looks, the talent. But when The Bachelor star Sam Wood broke the news to her that she wouldn’t be continuing to the next round in Season Three, she was crushed. Who are we kidding, we were all crushed! We’d fallen in love with Heather, and for a while, Sam Wood was dubbed Australia’s Most Hated Man. At the time, Sam said “I understand that so many people have fallen in love with Heather because she’s such an incredible girl, so it wasn’t a terribly popular decision.” You’re weren’t wrong Sam, you weren’t wrong!
So what was the straw that broke the camel’s back?
Everything appeared to being going well. Although Heather’s flirting style wasn’t as forward as some of the other contestants, they were foolish to underestimate her. Despite taunting remarks from Yasmin and Emily during Episode 5 that suggested Heather was in ‘the friend zone’, Heather received a kiss from Sam that very night.
However, dedicated viewers say it was the intensity of the hometown date that put Heather out of contention. Heather’s childhood was a difficult one. Her father left home when she was very young, leaving Heather with her mum. Their life was far from easy.
“There were days I went to school with no food, dirty uniforms and that whole bit [sic] because there was no food and no money to buy food” Heather recalled.
“We moved over 16 times before I was 12 and that doesn’t include living in cars, caravans and sometimes, not even that, closer to being on the street like homeless.” Heather did get the chance to reunite with her father once she turned 18, but he sadly became ill and passed away not long after they rekindled their relationship. Consequently, Sam met Heather’s intimidating yet caring father-figure Warwick when he journeyed to Brisbane with Heather. The end of the episode saw Sam breaking it off with Heather, a decision which saddened all of Australia.
So what is Heather Maltman of The Bachelor fame doing now? Let’s rehash what we know about this brunette bombshell.
1. How old is Heather Maltman?
Heather was born in 1985, making her 34 years old this year.
2. What does Heather weigh?
When it comes down to exact numbers, what Heather weighs is unknown. What we do know, however, is she’s certainly fighting fit! After leaving The Bachelor, Heather shed 7 kilos, which she credited to battling ropes. “There is nothing sexy about using your chicken arms to throw rippled rope in order to get fit” she joked. We hear you Heather, those ropes can killer!
This Valentine’s Day, Heather used that level of fitness to help others. Instead of going out for a romantic dinner like the rest of Australia, she took part in a sponsored bike ride to help the family of her colleague.
Heather and other team members biked for a collective 24 hour period, raising approximately $160,000 for a colleague’s sister, a young mother with terminal brain cancer. Here’s Heather and her teammates as they finished their 24 hour challenge. If this picture doesn’t give you chills, we don’t know what will.
3. Where is Heather from?
Heather hails from sunny Brisbane, Queensland.
4. What had Heather done before The Bachelor?
Heather arrived on our screens with a background in acting and filmmaking. You can check out her IMBd here.
5. Who has she dated in the past?
Heather is a multi-talented woman with so much to offer a partner, which is why it isn’t surprising that she’s had multiple significant relationships. When she was 21, she had her first and only same-sex relationship to date with Renee Broome, a TV screenwriter who Heather had collaborated on a film with.
Heather posted this picture to Instagram after the result of the plebiscite showed that Australia had voted to allow gay marriage. After been rejected by Sam in episode 14 of The Bachelor, Heather had a brief romance with Andrew Steele which lasted for 9 months. After Andrew, Heather spent a year with Matt Baker. So determined was Heather to keep the identity of her new boyfriend a secret, that she covered his face with emojis and referred to him only as ‘Derick’
We eventually got the face reveal we were looking for (you can still find Matt Baker on Instagram as @bakesy01) But on the 27 November 2018, Heather took to social media to announce that the couple had sadly split up. “Obligatory life update from living in the public eye to some degree” read the caption. “We just went full Gwenth Paltrow and Chris Martin” – referencing the celebrity duo’s conscious uncoupling.
6. Who is she currently dating?
It doesn’t appear as though Heather is dating anybody new yet, but then again she kept her cards close to her chest when she was seeing Matt. We think we’ll find out about a new partner when the time is right.
7. Has Heather ever posed nude?
To date, Heather has not been embroiled in a nude pictures scandal, but she certainly isn’t a shrinking violet. Her showreel demonstrates her impressive dramatic range, from promoting The Feed’s Sex Week in white lingerie to playing a prim and proper lawyer in Seven’s Winter.
8. Is she on Instagram?
Yes! You can follow Heather on Instagram as @heather_maltman.
9. What does she do for a living?
Heather has been an announcer on the Gold Coast Sea FM morning show since 2016 and is very much a part of the breakfast radio team. She’s no stranger to taking the reins after hosting I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here alongside Joel Creasey.
So, what’s next for Heather Maltman? Once she recovers from her Valentine’s Day bike ride, Heather will be back ruling the airwaves on Sea FM. We hope to see more acting and filmmaking from her over the coming year, and while having a partner certainly isn’t everything, we hope she finds someone deserving of her soon.
