Jackie Gillies’ shining light

“I’m here to help people! ”

Walking onto the set of WHO’s photo shoot, I expected the same routine as at countless shoots before – I’ll sit with the star in hair and makeup, we’ll move to styling, she’ll strike a pose for the camera and we’ll end the day with a one-on-one interview.

But on this occasion, our talent – Jackie Gillies, the popular reality-TV star and psychic medium – managed to turn my working day into an experience that I’ll never forget.

With a notepad and dictaphone in hand, I greeted our guest Gillies, who, just like on The
Real House Wives of Melbourne,
appeared with a burst of positive energy. I thanked her for coming, but before she could even ask my surname, Gillies stopped, stunned, as though she’d seen someone behind me.

“There are spirits here, I can see your mother,” she mouthed.

I turned to my shoot director for some sort of help – but she too was puzzled. My dear mother she spoke of had passed away only seven months ago and while I knew Gillies was a professional psychic, I did not expect an impromptu reading.

Needless to say, I was confronted with personal messages from my mother, which would only be knowledge held by those who sat beside her on her final days. I went from being a critic to intrigued by this second world of consciousness Gillies spoke about.

In her new book, Shine It Up, Gillies says she knew she had access to the spiritual world as a child but only revisited her gift as she grew older.

The author, who has been contacting the loved ones of strangers for more than a decade.

For her full interview be sure to pick up the new issue of WHO.
