Jim Carrey and the body double rumours at the César Awards that forced his publicist to step in

Is it real or is it cake(d on make-up)?

Over the weekend at the 51st Cesar Awards in Paris, everyone was talking about one thing… was that really Jim Carrey? Returning to the spotlight after years away from the public eye and uncharacteristically talking about his love life, fans were in a frenzy questioning if the man at the show (that became an Honorary César Award winner) was actually the actor himself.

Many fans studied his mannerisms in interviews posted on social media and decided it was not him at all, and that an imposter instead had stole the actor’s place on the red carpet.

Who? You may ask? The transformative make-up artist and celebrity impersonator Alexis Stone, of course.

Jim Carrey or Alexis Stone?

When The Truman Show star took to the carpet, fans welcomed his return and recognisable smile.

However, after a couple of apparently out-of-character gestures and movements, fans were quick to dramatically state that “Jim Carrey is gone.” What is it with fans and conspiracy theories about disappearing Canadian stars (cue Avril Lavigne)??

While many users commented on the videos of Jim Carrey at the awards night, claiming that that’s “not how he looks, talks or moves”, other fans took a more rational approach.

“He literally sounds the same, he just looks surgical now,” one user commented.

“Why is it so hard for people to believe that Jim Carrey got filler,” another fan said.

However, the moment that made the internet dust off their tinfoil hats was a post by Alexis Stone.

Elliot Joseph Rentz, better known as Alexis Stone, is a popular drag queen and SFX make-up artist known for their celebrity impersonations.

They took to Instagram on Monday, March 2, posting a photo of Jim Carrey and an alleged Jim Carrey mask with the caption, “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”

Now that’s seizing the moment!

Jim Carrey’s rep debunks impersonator rumours

However, since the rise of these conspiracy theories, Carrey’s representative and Gregory Caulier (the general delegate of the Cesar Awards) have spoken up to debunk the rumours, stating that the real Jim Carrey was indeed in attendance.

In a statement to People and TMZ, Carrey’s rep reported that the star “attended the Cesar Awards, where he accepted his honorary Cesar Award.”

Additionally, Caulier noted in a statement to Variety that Carrey’s appearance had been in the works “since this summer.”

Whoops! Looks like it actually was Carrey accepting that Honorary Cesar award.

God forbid you change your mannerisms slightly… and get a little work done.
