Mel Schilling reveals that her ‘light is starting to fade’ with cancer update

Mel Schilling, known and loved for her role as an expert on Married At First Sight Australia, has shared some devastating news about her battle with cancer.

After announcing her departure from MAFS in February 2026, the tv personality has returned to Instagram to share some even sadder news about her health.

Mel announced a heartbreaking health update

This morning, on March 13, 2026, Mel wrote her friends and fans a heartfelt message about the stage she’s reached in her cancer journey.

Despite having hope the last couple of years, Mel writes that she was delivered some saddening updates and her “light is starting to fade.”

“My oncology team have now told me there is nothing further they can do,” she writes in the Instagram post. “Hearing those words changes everything.”

“But I am still here, still fighting, and surrounded by the most incredible love. Simple tasks have become incredibly difficult and I am relying on my beautiful family to look after me.”

While expressing gratitude for being “surrounded” by the “love and support of [her] people,” Mel also admits that she “honestly [doesn’t] know how long [she has] left.”

“But I do know I will fight to my last breath.”

Mel ended her message with these words: “If I could leave you with one thing, it would simply be this: if something doesn’t feel right, please get it checked out. It might just save your life.”

Devastated fans, friends, and family have flooded to the comments to share their support, admiration, and sadness.

Australian celebrant and reality tv star Lucinda Light wrote: “Mel, the impact you’ve had reaches far beyond any one place.”

British presenters, actors, and broadcasters like Dawn French, Nicola Thorp, and Harriet Rose also wrote words of love and support for Mel, stating “what a nourishing, bright light [she is].”
