Who Is Nick Kyrgios?
Nicholas Hilmy Kyrgios is an Australian professional tennis player. He was born on April 27, 1995, and is of Greek-Malaysian descent. Nick was only 17 when he was named the top-ranked junior in the world, and only two years later, he performed stunningly in the 2014 Wimbledon Championships. It was Nick’s Wimbledon debut, but he had managed to make it to the quarter-finals and defeat Rafael Nadal, denying Nadal a slot. It was a meteoric rise, making him the first male tennis player to reach the quarters in his first year.
He reached the quarter-finals of the 2015 Australian Open, making him the first Australian to make it to that round since 2005. He was later knocked out by Andy Murray, but his incredible performance on the court has earned him the rank of the world’s 27th best in men’s singles as of March 2019 with the ATP.
Nick is also known for his explosive temper, and has even been accused of throwing matches on purpose. He’s currently feuding with Rafael Nadal. After he defeated Nadal in 2015, Nadal gave his younger rival a backhanded compliment: “He is a player with huge talent and could be winning Grand Slams or fighting for the number one ranking. But he lacks respect for the public, the opponent and for himself.”
Nick’s response? He called Nadal “super salty” and claimed he was only gracious in victory. The two haven’t put it to rest yet. Wawrinka clearly didn’t accept the apology, as he later posted on Twitter, “What was said I wouldn’t say to my worst enemy.”

Nick Kyrgios’ girlfriend is Ajla Tomljanovic. Ajla is a 26-year-old professional tennis player, and she’s won a total of four singles and three doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit. Ajla was originally Croatian, but she obtained Australian nationality in 2018. She now lives in Brisbane, and has represented Australia in multiple tennis competitions.
Nick may be a talented player, but Ajla is just as fiercely competitive. She’s currently ranked as the world’s 47th best tennis player. One of her career highs was the 2015 Brisbane International, where she defeated former World No. 1 Jelena Jankovic in the first round. Though a shoulder injury derailed her for much of 2016, she had a good showing in the 2018 US Open, reaching the final in Seoul.
An On-And-Off Relationship
Ajla Tomljanovic and Nick Kyrgios first met in 2015. Both were at the peak of their careers at the time, with Nick reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and Ajla beating Jankovic. They’d been spotted together often from 2015 to 2016, and the skilled pair were even doubles partners for an Australian Open match!
Despite their connection on and off the court, there was trouble in paradise, which seemed to be confirmed in 2017 after Nick’s injury knocked him out of Wimbledon that year. Being sidelined put him in a slump, and he was seen partying at a London nightclub with several women who were definitely too close to be just friends.
