The eldest Jolie-Pitt daughter was officially adopted in 2005 when she was just 6 months old. Originally, she was adopted by Jolie who, at the time, hadn’t confirmed her relationship with then-newly separated Brad Pitt.

Then, in 2006, just a few months after Pitt and Jennifer Aniston’s divorce was finalised, Jolie announced she was pregnant with the couple’s first child. Around that time, Brad also officially adopted Zahara and older brother Maddox, changing their surnames to Jolie-Pitt.

Why Did Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie Get Divorced?

The world was shocked when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie announced that they were separating in 2016 after more than a decade together. Jolie filed the divorce, citing irreconcilable differences; however, rumours circulated that the real reason was Pitt’s drug and alcohol use. Apparently, Pitt was a known alcoholic who would get aggressive and violent when drunk.

Is Zahara Pitt An AIDS Orphan?

When Angelina Jolie initially adopted Zahara, it was reported that, according to testimony from the child’s biological grandmother, the baby was an AIDS orphan – a child who has lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. Soon after the adoption, Jolie had Zahara tested for HIV. Thankfully, the tests came back negative, and the child was confirmed to be healthy. However, later reports from Zahara’s biological mother herself insisted that she was not orphaned by AIDS, and there was a different reason she was put up for adoption.

Who Is Zahara’s Biological Mother?

Zahara’s bio mum is Mentewab Dawit Lebiso, who had the child when she was just 19 years old. She lives in a small, poor town in central Ethiopia and makes a living renting out rooms in her home.

She spoke to The Daily Mail in 2017, saying, Angelina has been more of a mother to her than I have ever been. She has been with her since she was a baby, but that does not mean I do not miss her. She also said that she wishes to reunite with her daughter and be in contact with her regularly, a request which Jolie has yet to address publicly.

Why Did Zahara’s Bio Mum Give Her Up For Adoption?

In 2007, the truth about Zahara’s conception came out. Mentewab, in an interview with Reuters, revealed that Zahara was, unfortunately, a product of rape. The young woman was violently attacked by a man who quickly disappeared after the act. She gave birth while she was in critical condition, and the child (named Yemsrach) was given up for adoption by Mentewab’s mother.

For better or for worse, Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt was adopted into one of the most talked-about Hollywood families of all time. Because of this, she’s spent most of her life in the spotlight. She’s only had two film credits so far, but we’re already excited for what else is in store for her – including whether or not she’ll follow in her famous parents’ footsteps.
