Despite being one of the most well respected— and highest paid— actors in Hollywood, Chris Hemsworth says there was a point in time where he was on the verge of giving up.
“I remember I had an audition right before Christmas one year, where things were not going good,” the 35-year-old Australian star told Variety. “I’d stopped getting callbacks, and I was getting worse feedback. I thought, ‘God, why did I do this?’”
Not only was Hemsworth struggling to land his big break but before he became the Norse god of thunder he was “running out of money” and unable to help his parents financially

“I almost put too much pressure on myself,” the Men in Black: International actor said. “If I hadn’t taken it upon myself to take care of my family, I might have been more relaxed.”
Despite being famous in Australia for his reoccurring role on Home and Away, Hemsworth— who is happily married to wife Elsa Pataky— said it stung all the same when he missed out on starring in movies like the 2009 hit G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra and the Wolverine X-Men films.
“At the time, I was upset,” he said. “I was running out of money. But if I played either of those characters, I wouldn’t have been able to play Thor.”
Having since reprised his role as Asgardian hero, Thor in six Marvel movies as well as recently starring in hit blockbuster flick, Avengers: Endgame, the dad to Tristan, Sasha and India Rose says he’s not finished yet.
“I’d still love to do more, to be honest. And I don’t know what the plan is. I feel like we’ve opened up such a different character. I feel more energised for the possibility of where it could go … But I’ll use that in other places and other characters if it’s the end here.”
