The 83rd Golden Globe Awards was a typically glamorous Hollywood affair, full of jokes at the expense of some of the attendees (courtesy of returning host Nikki Glaser), jaw-dropping red carpet looks and, of course, teary acceptance speeches from the winners.
Whilst we saw some of these winners coming from a mile away, others had us surprised.
The awards show celebrates the best of the best in both film and television and is usually a big indicator of who will win the prestigious Oscars and Emmys as well.
Australian stars including Rose Byrne, Sarah Snook and Jacob Elordi were all nominated, with Byrne taking home the gong for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – musical or comedy, for If I Had Legs I Would Kick You.

Not everyone was so lucky, however, as some performers, films and TV shows notably snubbed.

It was a huge night for Netflix’s Adolescence, with the haunting limited series scooping up Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television, Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television for star and creator Stephen Graham and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television for teenaged star Owen Cooper.

Who missed out at the Golden Globes 2026?
Ryan Coogler
Having been the favourite to win Best Screenplay for Sinners – arguably one of 2025’s most talked about films – it came as something of a surprise when Ryan Coogler was pipped by Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another.
Sarah Snook
We always love to see an Aussie succeed on a global stage, so we really had high hopes for Sarah Snook after her powerful turn in All Her Fault.
However, it was Michelle Williams (who was absent from the ceremony) who took the honours for Best Actress in a limited TV series for Dying For Sex.

SmartLess with Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes
The inaugural award for Best Podcast was already a slightly contentious one, and the grumbling got a little louder after Amy Poehler won the gong for Good Hang, despite being less than a year old.
Meanwhile, SmartLess, which is co-hosted by Amy’s ex, Will Arnett, missed out, even though it’s been going for 6 years.
