Another day, another awkward conversation between MAFS’ Mike and Heidi. No matter what he says or how he says it, Mike always manages to put his foot in his mouth – and tonight was no exception.
Dressed to the nines and enjoying a beautiful date on the Gold Coast, the couple got to talking about marriage, moving in together and, ahem, whether Mike would be open to the prospect of falling in love with his TV wife.
“Maybe I’ll try and fall in love with you,” he told the radio presenter as she covered her eyes and lowered her head to the table in shock.
“Oh my god babe, don’t say that. Just say I love you or don’t say anything,” she replied.
As always, Mike expressed every tiny thought that popped into his brain, which only made the situation worse— and Heidi was not impressed.
“You’re digging yourself a hole and you nearly can’t get out of that hole. Be very careful.”
“I was trying to be charming,” he said, hoping to squash the awkward conversation once and for all. “Don’t people say ‘I think I could fall in love with you’ all the time?”
Back up there Mikey boy… that’s not what you said! There’s a very big difference between thinking you could fall in love with someone and actively trying to do so!
Anyway, it gets worse.
In the middle of an uncomfortably long pause, Mike decides it’s definitely the most appropriate time to ask Heidi whether or not she thinks he’s in love with her. Brilliant idea if you ask me…
“No, I don’t think you love me,” she says awkwardly.
Noticeably offended, Mike tried to salvage the conversation by admitting he’ll probably say those three special words to her sometime in the (distant) future.
“I think I could fall in love with you,” he clarified. “I think the world of you and I see a future with us. I know I will fall in love with you and maybe I am a little. It was a compliment, don’t take it as anything but that.”
Whatever you say, Mike!
