We’ve just said goodbye to Married At First Sight, and I thought there was a collective sigh of relief as we turned to MasterChef — a show renowned for how wholesome it is. However, within days of the show airing, a real ugliness has bubbled to the surface, with brutal comments made about the judges leading to many fans pleading that reality TV’s “nastiness” doesn’t turn to the one show that’s managed to resist it so far.
Everything from how “annoying” Andy Allen’s ‘shouting’ is to Poh Ling Yeow’s excited reactions to the cook’s dishes (and even what the judges are all wearing) has been ripped apart online.
A real tussle between those eager to complain about the show, and others keen to refrain and simply enjoy it, has imploded once civil group chats across social media.
And, fans are rallying against it.
“Please let’s have a good season,” one fan said. “If you don’t like someone’s hair, voice, choice of food, someone’s dress, or feel you can taste the food better than the judges… just change channels.”
Another chimed in saying there’s “no need for nasty comments”.
However, it seems others just can’t help themselves, pushing back and claiming it’s just what reality TV is about.
“Unfortunately this is the norm for many reality shows, justified or not. Everyone has their own opinion, that’s life,” one fan said.
Of course, the news of Meghan Markle’s upcoming appearance on the show has also sparkled division.

MasterChef recap: What’s happening on the show?
Over the first three episodes, 40 contestants battled it out for a spot in the Top 24, and we now officially know who has made the cut.
Standouts included Olaolu, who won a MasterChef apron after making a traditional Nigerian dish, and Luke Harris, who is the youngest contestant at only 19.
He told the judges the show inspired his love of cooking and considers himself an underdog for the season.
Going forward, the Top 24 will face cooking challenges and the judge’s critiques in a bid to win the show.
