Today is a gorgeous day because everyone’s favourite rom-com series, Nobody Wants This, has officially been renewed for a third season.

Netflix confirmed the news via their social channels with a video of the show’s star, Kristen Bell, making FaceTime calls to various cast members to share the news.

Loosely based on the life of the show’s creator Erin Foster, Nobody Wants This follows the unlikely love-story between sex podcaster Joanne (Bell) and Rabbi Noah (Adam Brody). In the second season, we saw the couple struggle to work through Joanne’s conflicted feelings about converting to Judaism. “Noah cannot be with Joanne unless she converts but doesn’t want her to do it for him. Joanne doesn’t want to change for a guy but wants to be with Noah,” Bell told Tudum. “So there’s an incredible amount of friction.”

Season 2 ended with Joanne’s decision to convert, and Noah’s realisation that he wanted to be with her no matter her decision. According to Netflix, the second season clocked 18 million views in its first 11 days, reaching the Top 10 in 82 countries.

“I couldn’t be more excited to head into a third season of this show,” creator Erin Foster told Netflix. “It is a privilege to be able to write about my favourite couple on a scale like this. As long as it doesn’t take too much time away from me watching reality TV at night, I’ll do it for as long as they want me to!”

As we wait for more info, here we’ve got everything we know so far about Nobody Wants This season 3.

What will the Nobody Wants This season 3 plot be?

Right now, we don’t have any specific details about what to expect from the plot of the third season of Nobody Wants This.

However, we can make a pretty good educated guess based on how season 2 ended and what the writers have said so far.

As we know, like the first season, the second season finished with Noah and Joanne kissing. Joanne had just come to the conclusion that she would convert to Judaism and Noah had realised he wanted to be with her no matter what she decided to do.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Foster discussed how they landed on that particular ending with showrunner Jenni Konner. While Erin wanted the season to end with Joanne and Noah getting engaged, Jenni didn’t. “There was a battle about do they get engaged,” Erin said. “We weren’t on the same side of it.”

“It’s hard,” Jenni added. “The end of a rom-com is when the lights [typically] go out and you never come back. You make up in your head, “Well, and then they got married and then they did this, and then they did that.” So, to start from there is hard. It’s hard to figure out what a finale is and how to make a happy ending that feels different enough from a really happy ending.”

One of the other big moments from the finale was Esther (Jackie Tohn) and Sasha’s (Timothy Simons) split.

In the episode, Esther decides she needs space from the relationship to figure herself out. No doubt, we’ll see more of that storyline in season two. “We all have friends who’ve been married a long time, who get that itch, and you kind of have to figure it out on your own a lot of times,” Foster explained of the decision in the writer’s room to have the couple split. “We also love the idea of Sasha showing up as this really good guy and being like, “I’ll get out of your way so that you can figure that out.”

They weren’t the only couple to break up in season 2, though. Morgan (Justine Lupe) also ended things with Andy (Arian Moayed), her former therapist turned fiancée.

In season 3, we could see more of the friendship between Morgan and Sasha develop as they both navigate single life.

Who will be in the cast of Nobody Wants This season 3?

Judging from the announcement video, we know that a lot of the main characters we love from the first two seasons will return.

Kristen and Adam will both be back as Joanne and Noah. Jackie Tohn will be playing Esther, Tim Simons will be back as Sasha and Justine Lupe will return as Morgan. We can probably also expect Stephanie Faracy to return as Lynn, Joanne and Morgan’s mum. As well as Tovah Feldshuh, who plays Bina, Noah and Sasha’s mum.

Season 2 had a few notable guest stars including Leighton Meester, Seth Cohen and Kate Berlant. Whether they’ll be back for season 3 remains to be seen, but there’ll likely be more exciting cameos to look forward to.

Who will write Nobody Wants This season 3?

Erin Foster will return as creator and co-writer for season 3, along with showrunners Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan.

“We are so grateful to Netflix and 20th for giving us another season of Nobody Wants This,” Jenni and Bruce told Netflix. “This job is criminally fun. Working with the uniquely gifted Erin Foster, this unbelievable cast of talented, hilarious pros, amazing writers, and incredible crew has been a truly great experience.”
