Every true rom-com lover has read one (or all 10) of Emily Henry’s novels, including her best-selling book- People We Meet on Vacation.
Knowing how successful the book would be as a film, Netflix were quick to contact the author and get the ball rolling on a movie adaptation.
Based on the fan-favourite trope “friends-to-lovers”, the plot follows best friends Alex (Tom Blyth) and Poppy (Emily Bader) who holiday together every summer.

From slow-burn chemistry, to sun-drenched escapism and yearning like no other.
In this plot we met chaotic travel writer Poppy (Emily Bader) and her buttoned-up best friend Tom.
The pair have been going on annual summer holidays for a decade until one disastrous holiday destroys their friendship.
In true Poppy spirit, she reaches out to Alex once more and asks him to take one last vacation.
Between the anticipation of finding out what happened on that holiday, to the hope of their friendship becoming more- we can see why Netflix thought a visual adaptation would do well!
What are the book-to-movie differences?
Emily Henry highlighted the differences between her hit 2021 novel and the upcoming Netflix film.
“There are a couple of differences between the book and the movie,” she said.
“We’ve moved a lot of the book from Palm Springs to Barcelona, so there’s some fun new like set dressing that they haven’t already experienced.”
“But more than that, I think it’s like these added scenes that were used to do, like a truncated version of stuff that happens in the book.”
“So that means we get new dialog between Poppy and Alex, new moments, new jokes, new beats of affection,” she continued. “And it’s kind of just like we get extra pieces of them and I really think that the readers are gonna just like eat that up.”
