The scandal that ensued after “cheating” Married at First Sight stars Dean and Davina met up for an awkward afternoon drink and some suspect sexting seems positively adorable compared to the head-spinning drama that’s playing out on Season 22 of The Bachelor in the US.
Race car driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. (sort of a salt-and-pepper Zach Braff) proposed to publicist Becca in the three-hour season finale before pulling a Blake Garvey, breaking off his engagement weeks later with the hopes of a second chance with the show’s runner up, sales exec Lauren.
The real kicker? His dumping of Becca was caught on film, with every heart-wrenching second aired, completely unedited. He then popped the question to his stand-by bride during a reunion special. Named as the next Bachelorette, Becca’s consolation prize will be a new clutch of handsome suitors.
“As soon as the breakup with Becca happened, it’s like I could breathe again,” the controversial cad tells WHO. “It feels so good to be 1,000 percent certain.”
Some fans are “1000 percent” outraged. Two billboards have appeared — one in Los Angeles and one in Becca’s home state of Minnesota— condemning the move: “Arie … Not Okay, Just Leave. —Everyone,” they read. In addition, Minnesota state representative, Drew Christensen drafted a bill banning Luyendyk from the state. “The state of Minnesota hereby adopts a policy of zero tolerance,” it says. “Every person in the state has a right to live free from the presence of Arie Luyendyk Jr.”
