A lesson in English, Bachelorette style

Is that even real word?

Guys, we need to talk.

There’s a word that’s being thrown around on The Bachelorette and, frankly, a little piece of my soul dies every time it’s said.

WATCH: Speaking of made-up words… Is this a real name?

Now I am, admittedly, a massive word nerd, but I think we can all appreciate how annoying it might be to have someone make up their own language and then use it like it’s right there in the dictionary.

Which it’s not.

I checked.

Jamie Doran keeps using this non-word… and if Angie Kent won’t say something about it, I will.

Ingenuine is not a real word

Again, for the people in the back.

INGENIUNE IS NOT A REAL WORD!

Angie, Carlin, I know you’re in shock and I’m sorry, I truly am. But it’s something we’re going to have to face together because, according to Urban Dictionary (which everyone knows is the elite resource for checking stuff):

“[Ingenuine is] not yet an actual word. Incorrectly used when trying to describe something that is the opposite of ‘genuine.’ Usually confused with “ingenuous“, which means “gullible”, and “ingenuity” which means “inventive originality“.

Despite it being a completely made-up term, Jamie used it no fewer than six times in the space of about three minutes in the latest episode of the reality TV series; so many times, in fact, that I have to wonder if he’s trying to make ‘ingenuine’ happen.

If that’s the case, please – stop.

Urban Dictionary suggests using the word ‘disingenuous when you’re going for the opposite of ‘genuine. But why not just stick to the classics and call someone fake?

To be fair, Jamie did use that term, too, while he was ripping into Carlin Sterritt during the cocktail party to end all cocktail parties.

When I see Carlin, I see a fake. And I’m going to let Angie know,” he quipped to a dumbfounded Timm Hanly as the the evening approached.

I’m not there when you’re with Carlin. But I know… It’s just fake, you know?” he also told a horrified Angie at the party.

I feel dishonesty, distrust with Carlin,” the firefighter had said earlier in a piece to camera.

“And cracks are appearing in his character daily.”
