The Voice is finally entering its semi-finals after an incredible group of Quarter Finals performances.
However, now that we’ve reached the pointy end of the competition, it’s only natural that fan favourites are beginning to be sent home, disappointing fans at home.
In the upcoming semi-finals, eight artists will be competing: Team Richard’s Tika Cetinich (VIC) and Tommy Novak (NSW), Team Melanie C’s Taylor Beadle-Williams (NSW) and Yung Milla (NT), Team Ronan’s Leyla Sabo (VIC) and The 60Four (SA), and Team Kate’s Charlotte June (SA) and Daisha Auda (QLD).
Despite exceptional performances from all of the brave artists on stage, there were a couple of snubs that have audiences disagreeing…and they’re all from Coach Melanie C’s team.
Of course, it’s not unlike fans to disagree with the coaches — Ronan Keating’s Knockouts snub being an example of this. It feels like this year, the gripes have been more frequent than usual.
Fans outraged over Melanie’s Top 2 picks
Sporty Spice ruffled some feathers during the Quarter Finals, with her choice to send Taylor and Yung Milla through to the semi-finals causing quite the stir amongst fans.
“Anyone else think Mel made a mistake in who she chose to go on tonight?” one fan wrote online.
“Yes, I was surprised she didn’t pick Cleo,” another viewer replied. “But she made the right choice with Yung Milla. Cleo had better vocals than Taylor.”
“Cleo should be in the finals. It was so bad who Mel picked,” a third chimed in.
“The girl who sang over the rainbow [Cleo] was magnificent, and so was Jack, in my opinion. Both gone,” another agreed.
It turns out that while having too much talent on The Voice Australia this year makes for good entertainment, it also makes for heartbreak, and the decisions are only going to get harder from here on out!
Fans defend Melanie’s decision: ‘it wouldn’t have been easy’
However, despite the disappointed fans, there were many loyal viewers providing a voice of reason to ease people’s minds, pointing out that while The Voice is an incredible launch pad, it’s not the only way into the industry.
“Everyone has to find their own journey, and winning The Voice doesn’t promise them a future in the music industry,” one fan wrote in response to users’ complaints about Melanie’s choice. “It just gets you some recognition. Everyone has to work very hard to get into and stay in the music industry. It’s just a competition, not a promise of a career in the future as a singer.”
“Oh my goodness, such a hard choice and it’s just going to get worse,” one viewer reminded fans online. “But entertaining nevertheless.”
“I don’t think [Melanie] made a mistake,” another quipped in response. “She’s there hearing them live, and they’re all great. She had to choose two, and it wouldn’t have been easy.”
Many fans also suggested a change in The Voice format, advocating for public voting sooner in the competition.
“Unfortunately they’re all very good at this stage of the competition and the judges have the very difficult task of choosing who goes on,” one fan commented online. “I wish the public could also vote for who goes on. Then we might see our favourites go through.”
Either way, it seems disappointment is inevitable on The Voice, and sometimes, fans just need to vent — with the coaches being the perfect sounding board (or punching bag, depending on the gripe)!
