*Spoilers head*
Before Shrinking returns for Season 3 on January 28 let’s take a look back where we left off in Season 2.
Season 2 picked up with Jimmy (Jason Segel) still dealing with the fallout from his grief-driven decisions in Season 1.
While he had started to stabilise after the loss of his wife, the new season focused on Jimmy confronting the consequences of how he handled that grief, particularly the impact on his daughter, Alice.
Here’s a quick recap of everything noteworthy that happened in Season 2:
What changed between Jimmy and Alice in Shrinking Season 2?

One of the emotional anchors of Season 2 was Jimmy’s evolving relationship with Alice (Lukita Maxwell).
After a season of anger and distance, Alice began opening up, slowly rebuilding trust with her father.
Their bond deepened as Jimmy learned to show up consistently instead of trying to “fix” everything.
By the finale, their relationship felt more honest and grounded, even if not perfect.
Who was Louis- and why was he so important?

Season 2 introduced Louis Winston (Brett Goldstein), a pivotal new character whose connection to Jimmy’s past forced long-suppressed emotions to the surface.
Louis’ presence challenged Jimmy, Alice and others to face unresolved pain head-on.
His storyline reinforced the season’s core theme: forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting, but it does mean choosing how to move forward.
What was happening with Paul?

Paul Rhoades (Harrison Ford) continued to grapple with Parkinson’s disease while navigating his role as both mentor and friend.
Season 2 showed Paul becoming more emotionally open, leaning into vulnerability rather than control.
His relationship with Julie (Wendie Malick) added warmth and stability, while his bond with Jimmy shifted from authority figure to equal.
How did the rest of the group evolve?

Gaby (Jessica Williams) explored new romantic territory while reassessing what she wanted emotionally, whilst Liz (Christa Miller) faced the cracks in her marriage and questioned her identity outside of caretaking others.
Sean (Luke Tennie) continued working through his anger and trauma, making meaningful progress toward independence.
Brian (Michael Urie) and Derek (Ted McGinley) provided comic relief while also experiencing subtle personal growth.
How did Shrinking Season 2 end?

The finale focused less on big twists and more on emotional resolution. Season 2 closed with characters choosing accountability, forgiveness and connection, setting the stage for Season 3’s theme of moving forward.
Rather than tying everything up neatly, the show left viewers with the sense that healing is ongoing- messy, imperfect, and very human.
