The world of Australian tennis has been home to some of the sport’s most highly decorated players; Ash Barty, Nick Kyrgios, Lleyton Hewitt, and Alex de Minaur.
Among these sporting legends is Croatian-born star Ajla Tomljanovic. Making her debut for Australia at the 2014 U.S. Open, Tomljanovic quickly cemented her position as one of Australia’s brightest tennis stars, with the 30-year-old now sitting at #2 in the Australian women’s tennis rankings.

Tomljanovic made headlines in 2022 following her U.S. Open match against former world #1 Serena Williams, with Tomljanovic defeating the tennis icon to progress to the semi-finals.

Ajla Tomljanovic was previously in a relationship with Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini.
Although there is very limited information surrounding the early days of the couple’s relationship, it has been reported that Tomljanovic and Berrettini first got together in October 2019.
Speaking on their relationship, Tomljanovic shared how the couple’s joint understanding of the demands of the tennis world has strengthened their relationship.
“It’s really nice to talk to each other because we understand that the best… That’s a really nice thing – the understanding about the lifestyle and priorities. It’s just nice to be on the same page,” she told The Age.
The couple also featured in the Netflix documentary Break Point, with Tomljanovic and Berrettini captured supporting each other during a training session in the lead-up to the 2022 Australian Open.
Sadly, after three years together, the couple parted ways in early 2022, with Berrettini confirming the split during a press conference at the 2022 Queen’s Club Championships.
“I’m single, but it’s not like something that I am looking for. It’s not that I’m waking up and [I] have to find love,” Berrettini told the press.
Berrettini has since found love with Italian television presenter Melissa Satta. Tomljanovic has not yet commented on the couple’s split.
