Warning: spoilers ahead of season 5 of Stranger Things.
Stranger Things has always been a love letter to the pop culture that shaped it, but season 5 takes that homage to a new level with a roster of cameos that reward the most attentive fans.
As we enjoy the final season of the Netflix behemoth, part of the pleasure is in all of the cameos that will surely crop up as the series comes to a close.
From surprise character returns to deeply personal tributes woven in by the Duffer Brothers themselves, the final chapter is packed with blink-and-you’ll-miss-them appearances that add elements of nostalgia and emotional weight to the series’ swan song.
Whether it’s an ‘80s throwback, a long-awaited comeback, or a meaningful real-life connection, these moments remind us why Stranger Things is a phenomenon built on both heart and horror.

Linnea Berthelsen returns as Eight
In a move that sent longtime fans into a spiral, Stranger Things resurrected one of its most controversial and compelling characters for season 5: Kali Prasad, also known as Eight.
Linnea Berthelsen’s surprise return, which is her first appearance since a three-episode arc in Season 2, arrives in season 5’s fourth episode (“Sorcerer”). There, she appears in a clandestine lab, restrained but unbroken.
Her cameo isn’t just nostalgia, though. It could be a key plot moment with the ability to reshape the mythos of the Hawkins kids by pulling back a crucial thread in Eleven’s origin story.
Long thought written off, Eight’s re-emergence feels like the Duffers’ way of closing a loop they opened years ago and a reminder that the world of Hawkins has always extended far beyond Indiana’s borders.

Linda Hamilton as Dr. Kay
When Netflix announced Linda Hamilton had joined Stranger Things, fans knew it would be a big moment for the franchise and season 5 delivers. Hamilton brings her signature steel to the villain of Dr. Kay, a mysterious new figure rooted deep in the show’s shadow-government ecosystem.
Her appearance isn’t a cameo per se, because it seems like she’ll become an integral character to the overall season but it feels like a big statement from the Duffer brothers. She’s one of sci-fi’s most iconic performers, now stepping into the final chapter of a series built on ’80s DNA.
With Hamilton in the mix, season 5 shifts into darker, more politically complex territory. It’s casting that’s both meta and meaningful, an inheritance of genre power passed from one era-defining franchise to another.

Hope Hynes Love as Miss Harris
In one of season 5’s most heartfelt cameos, the Duffer Brothers cast their former high-school drama teacher, Hope Hynes Love, as Hawkins Elementary educator Miss Harris.
The choice is a personal tribute: the brothers credit Love with encouraging their creativity and giving them the confidence to pursue filmmaking. “Miss Harris is played by Hope Hynes Love. She was our high school drama teacher,” Ross Duffer shared in a touching Instagram post. “High school was rough for me and my brother. But Hope saw something in us we didn’t see in ourselves — and she helped give us the confidence to not only survive those four years, but to move to LA and chase our dreams.”
On-screen, Miss Harris appears in Volume 1, becoming entangled in a new storyline when her class is targeted by Vecna.
