What is Oppenheimer about?
Set against the backdrop of World War II, Oppenheimer follows theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer as he leads the United States Manhattan Project in the race to develop the atomic bomb.
Despite his work being considered groundbreaking by his colleagues, Oppenheimer is plagued with intense moral and ethical conflict as the real-life impact of his invention begins to come to light following the U.S. bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The film also features Christopher Nolan’s signature non-linear storytelling timeline, with the film intertwining the perspective of Lewis Strauss during Oppenheimer’s 1954 Atomic Energy Commission hearing.
Is Oppenheimer a true story?
Oppenheimer is based on the true story of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Director Christopher Nolan based the film largely on the 2005 biography American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer – exploring his rise to fame and eventual fall from grace.
Who is the cast of Oppenheimer?
Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy leads the star-studded ensemble cast of Oppenheimer as J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Joining Cillian is fellow A Quiet Place star Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer’s wife, Katherine ‘Kitty’ Oppenheimer, and Midsommar’s Florence Pugh as physicist and Oppenheimer’s love interest, Jean Tatlock.
Robert Downey Jr. stars as Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Lewis Strauss, with Matt Damon joining the cast as Manhattan Project Director, General Leslie Groves.
