Surprise, surprise. Things are getting heated in The Block share house. In scenes reminiscent of your university days (or maybe when your kids were younger), the contestants are squabbling over dirty dishes.
It’s been an issue bubbling away over many episodes, and it just reached a boiling point on Wednesday night, with Chantel and Wyatt heading off to the gym after the family dinner, and, yet again, not pulling their weight in the dishes department.
While they did clean their own dishes, they didn’t offer to help clean up anyone else’s and it’s a pattern that has frustrated the other contestants — most notably, Jolene.
She wrote a message on the fridge whiteboard urging them to clean up after themselves when one of their dirty bowls was found left in the sink, and she later dumped the remaining contents of their protein powder in the bin.
While it all kicked off, Rick can be seen in the background wiping down the surfaces, and he told WHO he has one approach to keeping out of the drama and not letting the contestants annoy him.
However, he did liken Chantel and Wyatt to his kids.
How Rick deals with Chantel and Wyatt not doing the dishes ‘every week’
While Jolene had a big reaction, Rick admits it “doesn’t really bother” him; and if it does, he doesn’t let on.
“I don’t really care. It doesn’t bother me, but I think it affects other people differently,” he told WHO. He said he would rather just clean up other people than let it bother him.
“It’s just part of growing up as a dad, looking after the kids.
“Look, it’s not a good look in the sink, but I’m fine with that, but I think Jolene and the others didn’t take too well to it.”

The Block fans criticised Chantel and Wyatt
Online, fans didn’t take it well either.
Chantel and Wyatt were called out for acting like “teenagers”, with viewers comparing them to their own children too.
“They expect everyone to clean up after them… I’m glad I’m not living with them,” one fan wrote.
“I’d put any of the dishes they leave in their bed,” another said.
When asked if the situation got better after the blow-up, Rick confirmed that it actually did. The tension made things awkward, but it was seemingly effective.
Well played, Jolene.
