For over 15 years, she’s entertained millions of loving viewers who have religiously tuned in to her popular television talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Interviewing some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry while also addressing hard-hitting and emotional topics, comedian Ellen DeGeneres has laughed and cried with her devoted audience.
However, in shocking news, the 60-year-old admitted that she’s considering changing her course and leaving daytime television.
In an interview with The New York Times, Ellen said she hesitated to extend her contract into the Summer of 2020, admitting she feels “boxed in by her reputation for kindness.”
Her wife, Portia de Rossi has also been a big influence in making this decision, saying she believes her partner of 10 years could do more and wants her to explore all of her options before making a final decision.
“I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and standup that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity,” she said lovingly. “There are other things she could tackle. I don’t see the end of her show as her career ending.”
While Ellen’s partner wants her to exit the hit series, her older brother, Vance DeGeneres has a different opinion about the future of her famous show.
“[Portia] gets mad when my brother tells me I can’t stop,” Ellen, the second highest paid TV host says of Portia wanting her to quit.
Later in the interview, Ellen confessed that she’s interested in broadening her horizons and possibly playing “someone unappealing” in a movie or TV series.
“I want to show all of me,” she said. “The talk show is me, but I’m also playing a character of a talk-show host. There’s a tiny, tiny bit of difference.”
“She’s just a bit more complicated than she appears on the show,” Portia said.
