There is nothing better than a traditional facial at the hands of a professional. But even the highly skilled are enlisting tech into their traditional treatments. If you haven’t had a beauty appointment lately, you might be surprised how different things look.

WATCH: The weirdest new beauty invention: lash dry shampoo.

Suddenly there is a machine to help solve every issue. Like being onboard the Axium (from the classic Pixar flick WALL-E), there’s a tech solution for everything from jowls and a slackened tummy to tricky skin issues such as acne and rosacea. We round up the latest treatments that have won us over (and made us look just that much better), plus a few devices to try at home.

Body Sculpting

Treatment: Trusculpt ID.

What it is: A customisable, heat-based treatment that is able to reduce fat. This is great for trouble spots on the body that can’t be shifted by exercise or diet. Personalised to your specific concerns, this radio-frequency tech is able to target fat to slowly encourage it to metabolise in the body over 12 weeks.

Time frame: Each treatment takes about 45 minutes and you will need between one and four treatments.

Tried and tested: Being hooked up to the machine was the most time-consuming part of this actually very relaxing treatment.

A deep heat was felt in the thighs, but it was very tolerable and not dissimilar to a hot-stone massage. After three months, our jeans fit better and legs looked more streamlined.

Number of treatments: One to four, about two to three months apart.

Price: From $1450 per body area.

Laser Light Therapy

Treatment: LYMA Laser

What it is: A do-it-at-home tool that allows you to target skin issues such as scarring, anti-ageing, texture and tone from the comfort of your own home.

Using LED light, the LYMA laser is able to go deeper than other treatments to assist in reversing the destruction of healthy skin cells, which leads to fine line, skin texture, dullness and more. The light energy of the laser also instructs your skin cells to fight off free radicals and to produce more collagen and elastic (aka skin gamechangers).

Time frame: You can see see results of using the LYMA laser in as little as 12 weeks if used consistently. Use for 15 minutes every day, and expect to see results in three months.

Number of treatments: Daiy treatments work best.

Price: $2499 to purchase the laser.

Acne Scarring

Treatment: SkinPen.

What it is: This treatment involves a pen with micro-needles to create micro wounds in the skin. The wounds boost collagen production for smoother, rejuvenated and more radiant skin. “The aim is to tease but not traumatise the skin in order to stimulate a healing process,” explains Dr Joseph Hkeik.

“SkinPen can really help to address the skin’s firmness, texture and wrinkles.”

Tried and Tested: Although a numbing cream dulled any real pain, the pen felt scratchy, and after the third pass the skin was definitely feeling a bit red. Post treatment, our face felt hot and looked red and that lasted a good 24 hours. Dr Hkeik says this could continue a day or two longer if you have more sensitive skin. A week later though, and our complexion was glowing with good health.

Number of treatments: Between three and six treatments at least four weeks apart.

Price: $400 per treatment.
