Emily Ratajkowski is renowned for her stunning brunette locks, but the model stunned fans when she revealed she’d dyed her hair a shocking platinum blonde.
The 29-year-old model and actress took to Instagram to share a short video of herself debuting her new, considerably lighter hair.
“BLONDE. Thank you @kerastase_official,” she wrote as the caption.
Emily’s post was met with many fire emojis and compliments in the comments section.
“Woooooooww omg so pretty!!” one follower penned.
“We are obsessed with you new look!!” the official Kerastase account commented.
Hair company Kerastase also shared their own snaps of Emily’s new blonde look with the caption, “BOOM!! 💥💣💥 @emrata went blonde and we are sooooo obsessed with her new look!”
However, not all of Emily’s fans were impressed and were dismayed to see that the star had ditched her trademark darker locks.
“Noooo,” one fan wrote followed by a series of crying face emojis. “U don’t have your face adapted to be blonde!!! You are better brunette …”
Another wrote, “Noooooo, cheap look.”
One even exclaimed “NOOOOOOOOO!!! WHY?!!!” followed by even more crying face emojis, plus one of a broken heart.
However, in an interview with ELLE, Emily acknowledged that her new look would be divisive.
“It’s going to definitely be controversial, I think. I’ve posted [and asked my followers], ‘Should I do it?’ before. And people are like 50/50. But I feel like that’s just mostly men telling me what to do with my hair, which like, I’m not that interested in. So they can learn to deal with it,” she told the publication.
The Gone Girl star added that the hair transformation took many hours.
“I got in the chair around 9:00 AM and I left around 4:30 PM. We were getting it right though, too. We did the first stage of it. Then we did a second. The colorist did a mask. Then we went in to fix the roots. I didn’t want streaky or stripey blonde. If I’m going to go blonde, I want to go blonde.”
Emily is currently in lockdown with her husband Sebastian Bear-McClard at their home in the Echo Park neighbourhood of LA.
The model, who has also spoken out on various political issues, confessed to ELLE that she’s been using self-isolation as a time to read and finish her book proposal of a collection of her essays.
“A lot of them were worked on before quarantine, but the final edit and like putting them all together happened during quarantine. So I was weirdly blessed with the situation, because I had absolutely no FOMO,” she explained.
