Filter your face shape

Oval faces are considered the slimmest and you can easily cheat one.

Try some simple contouring by lightly buffing a matte cream bronzer – we like E.I.f. Putty Bronzer ($14) – along your hairline, starting at your temples and stopping just before the centre of your forehead.

Then buff along your jawline from the widest point towards the centre, stopping just before the middle. This will create the optical illusion of an oval face shape.

A pain-free face lift

By accentuating the tops of your cheekbones, you will create the illusion they are higher and more prominent, which can help detract from a double chin or jowls.

Try a liquid highlighter, which is easier to buff into the skin for a natural effect.

We love Nude by Nature Soft Focus Illuminator ($24.95) – apply a few dots above your cheekbones and pat in with your fingers.

Elongating waves

Styling your hair so it bends and sits on your cheekbones will help your face look longer and slimmer.

Spritz De Lorenzo Elements Sandstorm Dry Texture Spray ($26) on after blow-drying and use your fingers to rub it in.

It will give hair a bit more grit, which will then make it easier to bend round your curling tong into a soft wave that lands – and stays! – just where you want it to.

Sculpted Jaw

Contouring also works a treat along your jawline to make it look more defined and razor sharp, so take your bronzer and buff it all the way along and just slightly under where your jawbone is.

Then take the bronzer down either side of your throat; this will make your neck seem longer, which also helps your face appear slimmer.

Elizabeth Arden Dual End Foundation Brush ($58) is the perfect shape for contouring.

Carve in cheekbones

Celebs and models use contouring to create instant cheekbones, so do the same! Grab a matte powder bronzer – Ciate London’s Brazilian Glow Face Palette ($49) is a team favourite – and buff it under and along your cheekbone.

This creates the effect of a shadow, making your cheekbones stand out more.

Nose Tweaker

Slightly narrowing your nose has the knock-on effect of slimming your face, and there’s no needles or surgeon’s knives required!

Simply apply a lighter shade of concealer down either side of the length of your nose and buff in.

Maybelline SuperStay ActiveWear Concealer ($24.99) works brilliantly.

Cheek De-puffer

Massaging your face stimulates lymphatic drainage, which means excess fluid will be drained away. Use FaceGym Multi-Sculpt Contouring Tool ($65), putting it in the fridge to cool.

Work over your face and neck in sweeping movements, holding it on the skin just long enough to create an icy tingle.
