Whilst we’re trying to keep up with all the present hair trends, amongst the heat styling and colouring involved, our hair often bears the brunt of damage. But, when it comes to minimising damage, there are a few measures one can put in place! From simple changes like changing your hair washing frequency to limiting heat styling, Emma Li from Australian health science company, EZZ shares her top hair health tips.

Stop over washing

While we’re often told to limit washing our hair everyday, one may wonder why exactly.

“Overwashing could be stripping the healthy oils from your hair, leaving you with hair that is dry and more prone to breakage,” Li says.

“It is best to allow your hair to breathe between washes, so you should avoid washing it every day. If your hair is very oily, try using a dry shampoo to absorb the oil and give you a freshly washed feeling, while keeping your hair damage free.”

Focus on the scalp

As we know, scalp health is a key determinate in overall hair health.

“One of the easiest ways to create a healthier and nourished scalp is by using a scalp scrub to lift away dead skin cells while unclogging pores. EZZ Hair Scalp Scrub contains organic oils to increase hair manageability and prevent knots and tangles, and caffeine powder to give your hair that rejuvenated feeling. Follow your scalp scrub with a nourishing hair mask or conditioner, and be sure to use only as directed, as over scrubbing can lead to damage,” Li says.

Limit the heat

While it’s hard to eradicate heat styling completely, there are a few ways you can limit your use. Like implementing a heatless styling device!

Drink up

“Drinking enough water also helps energise and strengthen your hair from the root to tip. Adding more H2O to your diet will prevent split ends and a brittle hair texture, as well as aiding a healthier scalp to stop dryness, itchiness and dandruff in their tracks. Just as water hydrates and replenishes the skin, it does wonders for the scalp and hair,” Lee says.

Additionally, “incorporating high protein dietary choices such as lean meat and poultry can increase vitamin intake and help promote healthy and strong hair from the inside out.”

Hair health supplements

Topical supplements are a nice addition to a well-rounded hair routine. Designed specifically for thin or slow-growing hair, direct-to-scalp serums and sprays can also give your hair a boost.
