Mineral makeup is brilliant for so many reasons and as most mineral brands are Vegan, all-natural and cruelty free, their popularity is set to soar.
Pauline Youngblood Soli founded Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics in 1996 for patients who had undergone harsh facial treatments (laser surgery etc) and needed coverage that wouldn’t irritate the skin.
Because it’s chemical-free, mineral makeup can be applied immediately after a laser or facial procedure where other makeup would probably irritate the skin and cause breakouts.
What’s not to love?
Here’s a selection of some of the best mineral makeup in Australia.
#6 Bare Minerals Matte Foundation
If you’re looking to switch from chemical-based products and start using mineral makeup then Bare Minerals is a name to familiarise yourself with.
Their loose powder is definitely one of the best. Start with Bare Minerals Matte Foundation with natural SPF (BM don’t use any chemical sunscreens) and extend from there into concealer, blush, bronzer and eyeshadow.
With 30 shades of foundation to choose from your skin tone will be perfectly matched and glowing like never before.
RRP $31
#5 Inika Loose Mineral Blush
Today is World Vegan Day and Inika Organics will be celebrating for sure.
As the first ever global brand to be organic and vegan-certified you can count on Inika if you’re interested in high quality mineral make up.
Their Loose Mineral Blush is fabulous and comes in 2 shades – Blooming Nude and Peachy Keen. Like all their products (they do great eyeshadows, bronzer, highlighter and more) it’s free from fillers, oil, alcohol, talc, chemical dyes and fragrance. Simply apply to the apples of your cheeks and build the colour as you go.
TIP: If you’re not used to mineral makeup be aware that the pigment can be more concentrated than other products you might be used to, so use sparingly and build colour slowly.
RRP $45
#4 Lust Mineral Blur Concealer
Lust Minerals are mainly sold online and their range is vast. From skincare to tanning to contouring and highlighting, they have a mineral makeup product for you. We love the Mineral Blur Concealer that comes in three shades.
Lust Minerals suggest the best coverage comes from applying three small dots under the eye. “Apply over your primer and under your foundation – we have found this technique works better with this particular product.”
RRP $42.99
#3 Natio Pure Mineral Foundation
When you’re short on time and need to replace your foundation, you’ll find Natio at pretty much any chemist and department store in the country. Handy.
But it’s not just the availability that makes Natio great. Their Pure Mineral Foundation is light, easy to apply and really does last all day.
If your perfect colour isn’t available (they only have 6 shades), either buy two and blend them yourself, or go for a shade that’s slightly darker and blend with some moisturiser, primer or highlighter and it should be good to go.
Remember: less is more with mineral makeup.
RRP $19.95
#2 Nude By Nature Natural Illusion Eyeshadow Trio
Another brand that you’ll find at any Priceline or Chemist Warehouse is Nude By Nature – sure to be one of the top selling mineral makeup brands in Australia.
Their Natural Illusion Eyeshadow palettes are heavily pigmented and really last the distance. The pressed powder contains a featherlight formula that is less likely to crease but more likely to last all night.
The result? You get a smoky eye look that doubles up as an antioxidant boost for the delicate skin around your eyes. What could be better?
