It’s no secret that the virtual world has a major impact on beauty. In fact, it dominates the beauty world. From social media, to online shopping tools, our beauty routines would not be the same without our good old friend, technology.

In an increasingly AI-powered world, where ChatGPT seems to be ruling the Internet, your beauty routine may just get smarter. Thanks to AI programming, we have been introduced to the ‘Cyberplexion’.

As a contraction of the words ‘cyber’ and ‘complexion’, Cyberplexion simply describes the merging of technology and skincare.

While technology will not be replacing our beloved skin experts, it can certainly help enhance what they do. It’s an addition, not a take-over.

To explore what the future for virtual beauty and online skin analysis looks like, we spoke to the founder of askbella (the AI-powered skin analysis site), Elaine Yang.

Virtual skin analysis service, askbella, is powered by AI. In what they call their Skinalyser™, users fill out a simple skin quiz which, based on expert research and data programming, prescribes a custom-built skincare routine.

Not only that, the service (which is free, by the way) generates a custom skin report, which explains your skin type, its sensitivity levels, what types of products you should use, the ingredients your specific skin type should look out for, where you can buy suggested products AND when they may be on sale.

Now, that’s smart.

In her own words, Yang says askbella removes customers’ confusion and solves “all the problems that people might face in the purchase journey.”

“We provide all the basic information about a product like; what does this product do? What are the most suitable skin types? We will [essentially] decode the product for you.”

Based on their research, 75% of customers are overwhelmed when looking for new products. If you think this sounds like you, maybe it’s time you transition to a more cyber complexion?

With everyone talking about ChatGPT and AI-powered shopping right now, virtual skin analysis’ are simply the next step when it comes to beauty.

Speaking on the virtual future of beauty, Yang said, “There will definitely be more [innovations] in the future but I don’t think AI will actually take over humans – we’re just talking about skincare. We use a tool to get people to save that time and money.”

“I think AI and other [shopping] technologies can definitely save some time and unnecessary work. For anything personalised [related to] your health or other issues, then an expert is still the person to go to. But from a business perspective, I think they [experts and beauty professionals] can definitely use technology to save their human resources.”

When it comes to Cyberplexion, or online skin analysis in general, the future of beauty seems even more promising. With AI being an insightful addition to your beauty shopping experience, technologies like virtual derms, interactive videos, and camera-powered skin analysers will all play a more integral role in the future of beauty.
